GUITAR HERO 3

Guitar Hero is a blasty blast! People who say the game sucks because it's nothing like playing real guitar just aren't getting the point. It's not supposed to be. It's more of a hand eye coordination and rhythm game than a "guitar simulator". I get a great deal more satisfaction playing my bass but I still really enjoy the game. They make a Stingray style bass controller for the game too which pretty much rocks. :bassist:

You'd be surprised actually.

I find this pretty true for most people, so I think my theory will hold true within the realm of Guitar Hero as well.

For a while I stopped playing bass and started playing keyboard in my brother's band. I had some background knowledge of keyboard but wasn't great by any means. So after about 2 months of playing keyboard, I got decent, and then that was done with.

I picked up my bass again, and lo and behold, I was pretty much just as good as I was before. I didn't loose any of my finger dexterity or strength, just lost a little endurance in my right hand.

You know what this tells me? I wouldn't be surprised that if I played Guitar Hero instead of bass for a while that I'd still be able to keep my hands in pretty good shape as far as playing bass again goes. To play the songs on expert and hyperspeed in Guitar Hero like I can, takes a lot of speed, hand-eye coordination and finger dexterity. Sure, it's a video game, but it's pretty tough at times haha

I am just trying to say that even if it is not a real instrument, as stated, most people who play it are not musicians, and most of them are not interested or do not have the time to learn an instrument. Give it a rest already :rolleyes:

You have to be pretty quick with your left if you expect to keep up with expert, and if you play two finger style with the right hand like I do on that controller, you can build up some decent dexterity. You also can work on timing if you have some serious trouble with that using this game.


Keep in mind I'm not saying playing Guitar Hero can effectively replace practice, because it can't. I'm just saying it can actually help one become a better musician if you look at it right.

In the end, it IS just a game. Have fun, but don't be so surprised when some players roll their eyes when Guitar Hero is brought up.

Al is the man! He was great with Return To Forever and his solo career has many gems, but his best work imo is with the Guitar Trio alongside John McLaughlin and Paco De Lucia. Simply beautiful stuff! However, I'm 19. I think I got the guitar trio records for my 18th birthday.

That's because that song was transcribed into GH by the devil.

Just because some people are idiots about it doesn't mean you have to discriminate it as a game. Of course some people won't like it, that is natural, and you don't have to. Just leave it alone then, eh? You don't have to get it, I am sure there's a lot of other video games you wouldn't "get" as well.

EXACTLY.

I'm definitely looking forward to it! I only own GH2 and me and my gf got really addicted to it. I seen the track list for GH3 and it looks amaaaaazing! So do those sexy wireless controllers. :D

I also don't mean to brag :smug: but im getting a Pioneer 50in Plasma HDTV around the same time im getting GH3 (which will be in about 3-5 days). So, needless to say, I am VERY excited!

The ONLY problem I have with it, is I too know lots of the songs and play them in my cover band...BUT as a bass player, I want to PLAY the actual bass line, therefor getting the game wrong...it's hard not to want to "chunk" the lines.....lol I'm 38, and my 8 yr old stepson kills me in this game......BUT he now knows, sings and LOVEs the 80's guitar hero songs..sad thing is, he thinks they are NEW songs....lol God I'm getting OLD :bawl:

Hah... It never ceases to get me laughing when I hear some kid go "Wow! YYZ was really cool! When did these guys come out? How did I miss it?!?"

Don't be mad just because kids or non-musicians are threatening you in their own mind now that they are good at GH.

IT'S A GAME. Relax. No one is leaving their bass career or hobby for GH because its better than playing a real instrument. And even if they did, so what?

That's like saying I hate or don't get Street Fighter 2 because people should just invest more time into learning how to really fight instead of beating each other up in a video game. Do you know how ridiculous that sounds?

It is entertainment that tests your rhythm and hand-eye coordination, and a chance to rock out to some music while having fun in the comfort of your living room. If you don't like to play games, challenge yourself at somewhat trivial things, or think the only fun thing about music is playing it on an instrument, you won't get it and it's not for you. Quite honestly, there is far more to like about something like GH than a ton of other mind-numbing activities I can think of.

The final song "Devil went to Georgia" has licks on it by Ed DeGenero, one of the better fretless players in the universe that you've probably never heard from.
