Guitar Hero - great game... addicting!

I had played it a bunch of times @ a friends house and I finally broke down and bought the game.

Does anyone else play it? It's mad fun.

Guitar Hero 2 is coming out in November and will 10x better. You'll be able to play lead guitar / rhythm guitar & BASS parts!

Know what song will be in GH:2? YYZ ...
Also, John the Fisherman, with Primus actually playing the song... not a cover.

Les Claypool gave RedOctane the master tracks for John The Fisherman, so when you play it in Guitar Hero 2, you'll be playing along with Les, Larry "Ler" Lamond, and Tim "Herb" Alexander, just like you were with them in the studio recording Frizzle Fry.

I've always played GH at my friend's house (And I beat "Cowboys from Hell" on hard. ) but I think I might actually have to pick this version up.

So how do you play this game?

There's this funky guitar controller thingy with five buttons on the fretboard, and a thingy to pick, and a whammy bar. So how does all this work in terms of game play? Are you actually playing a tune, or do you have to hit the right key at right time, or something like that?

How do you win the game?

You have to play it to understand how fun it can be. It's a game, it's not a substitute for bass or guitar playing.

What you described above is what it is, you strum and press the correct frets at the correct times as the buttons move by on the screen. You can see videos of it in action @ gamespot.com and ign.com and other places.

You win by hitting a high % of the notes correct and linking them together in high streaks without missing any notes. Also, you build up "star power" and can release it during the song to get higher pts. You are giving a rating and pts on the completion of each song ( 3, 4 or 5 stars ... )

There's 40 songs I think... there' EASY / MEDIUM / HARD / EXPERT settings. The ultimate goal is to get 5-stars on every song on Expert setting.

Kind of yeah. But the point really isn't to get all the right notes. It's more for people who don't play instruments to have their chance to rock out. Just like DDR. You don't have to dance well to be good at that game.

One of the songs on that game, All of This, is by Shaimus, a friend of mine's band. Be sure to check 'em out on their myspace and people on the Western side look out they're doin' a tour!

This is very true. My band went to a guys house for an interview and he had this game and was anxious to see how we would do. My two guitarists did the worst, I did a little better... and the drummer was awesome at it.

You play a mix of bass/guitar rythms...so if you know how to play the real song it makes absolutely no sense.

One of my guitarists (who is a virtuoso around these parts) said, "Man, I really sucked at that game..." Guitarist #2 said, "Dude, who cares, you can actually play all of those riffs and solos."

It's still pretty fun.

True dat. I have Guitar Hero and it's lots of fun (especially when drinking) but I can actually play most of those songs and yet I get schooled by my friend who can't play a lick.

Huh? The point is to hit all the right notes, if you don't the song stops and it says "YOU FAIL" ... the more accurate you are the more points and higher ratings.

I've gotten 5 stars on every song except Cowboys From Hell on Expert. It is purely ridiculous. I'm the best out of all my friends. My friend just got Guitar Hero today, so I experienced multiplayer for the first time. It is just trading licks off between the two players.

I'm looking forward to Guitar Hero 2 and at least with YYZ on there we can be sure that the bass mode won't be boring.
