Thats not really what i was saying, I realize i kinda worded it weird, but a person has to want to learn to play, but maybe a lot of people are happy with just playing gh and not play a real instrument, but i know it made me want to play a real instrument more. I have been in band since 4th grade and my bro and uncle are both pro bassists and my bro has a music degree from depaul university so you could say i have a nice background in music, but that dont make me awesome at bass. The best guitarist I know has zero background in music and is a better than me at gh too, so I know you dont have to have natural talent to play music and with enough practice anyone can be awesome at anything, they just have to want it.

I have played it with friends alot. And never could get the hang of it. I can play alot of the songs on my bass though. I find it more fun to play on a bass then a plastic guitar anyway. I like what peavey did though, has anyone seen it? They took one of their guitars and put the 5 guitar hero buttons and a strum switch or whatever its called on a guitar. It has to have a feel better then those lightweight plastic guitars. I hate how they didnt use the real song just bad covers. Both dead kennedys songs were terrable. and how they edited police truck. We'll will beat your butt ... long pause and it should go we'll beat you blue till you ____ in your pants. Im sure everyone can fill in the blank. Ill take my bass over guitar hero any day. I could see it beeing kinda fun when you have had too many drinks.

Its a game for FUN. If its nto fun for you thats cool go do something else. I enjoy it, and it doesnt affect my playing on actuall instruments. I think its cool and gives my nonmusician friends a small sample of what its like to play music.
A year ago for my friend's bachelor party, we all went over his place and played Guitar Hero all night. And what was funny was that all of us were musicians, and the drummer's were the best at the game!

Guitar Hero is the next logical step in our "I want instant gratification but I don't want to have to make an effort to get it" society. Push a few buttons and pretend you're a guitar hero. Why not READ A BOOK about being in a rock band, instead? At least that way you'd be exercising your brain by reading.

Exactly. For the price of guitar hero and an extra guitar controler, You could get a squire bass or guitar pack and learn to play the song on that.
I accualy like rockband though Just the added ability to play drums makes it more fun then guitar hero. And the guitar is still plastic but accualy looks like a strat. I would rather pick up my bass and play the song for real though. I hate how guitar hero makes the 14 year olds say I want to learn bass because its easyier. Which is not the case.
The reason that video games of football, golf, auto racing, shooting, deadly martial arts and others like them exist is because the typical person can't easily participate in them in real life.
I've always been completely bored with computer hockey games because they can't compare to the real hockey games I've played in a men's hockey league. For most people, playing in a hockey league isn't practical, so computer hockey makes sense. On the other hand, since no one can easily run around in the catacombs below a Nazi occupied castle and blow away Nazi zombies with a rocket launcher in real life, everyone is pretty much stuck playing the computer game version of that or nothing.

I've gotten to the point where I can play all but the hardest songs on hard mode and it's a killer workout to boot. IMO Guitar hero is to narrow in scope. Personally I hate playing the guitar part and I have found that the ladies love to sing.
I really hate when bassist heard that comment and start coming up with nonsense to try to convey how bass is harder than guitar(there was a post earliar in this thread i'm alluding to)
My brother and his girlfriend were like, " I can't wait to hear you on Guitar Hero." I thought it was going to be a snap. I played for about two hours and never got past a single song. The thing is you can't play by ear at all on the music...it's all timing when the silly dots are coming. I kept trying to play the notes by ear (read: when they're supposed to be played).
I guess I'm not a guitar hero.

THe main reason I actually decided to just get a bass was cause of guitar hero (the ifrst one) as much as I hate to admit it.
it drives me nuts when non-musicians talk about how they nailed some guitar solo and then i realize theyre talking about a video game.
god that drives me nuts to... especially when I'm playing my bass at the bus stop at school (it takes a while for my bus to come so i tend to get out my bass and practice a bit) and this guy comes up to me and asks "Is that a bass." I said "yes it is." He says "why don't you just play guitar?" i reply "I like bass better." and he says "Well guitar hero says bass is easier than guitar." and goes on talking about how he could probably play bass better than me because he beat guitar hero on expert... thank god my bus arrived before he could carry on much longer...
The thing that gets me, is that people stop thinking of the game as just fun and start taking it on a level where they think they're pretty cool for being good at it. When I see people start making those rock faces while they're playing I just get irritated because they don't really understand or appreciate the true concept of music. I wonder when a hanna montanna thread is going to pop up while we're on these subjects.
