GUITAR OVERDRIVE ON BASS ?

But coming from me, I wouldn't go for a guitar overdrive pedal.

Because here's the difference in my opinion of overdrive and Distortion (Even though both are types of distortion):

Overdrive is supposedly very crisp and high cut, where your high frequencies shine through your distortion.

Distortion tends to hang more towards the mids and lows, being very chunky and full.

You'd probably want to buy a guitar distortion pedal instead of an overdrive, otherwise you may get a muddy low end or no lows at all. That's why I say the DS-1 is your best way to go. But it also depends on what you plan to use your distortion for.

Are you using it for solo stuff, or are you using it as a personal sound, or what?

DON'T buy Behringer. The only thing Behringer that I would trust is their mic's. I bought a Behringer Hellbabe and there are SO many design flaws to it. The DigiTech Bass Driver is nice, it does everything the Boss ODB-3 does for cheaper, in my opinion. Plus the ODB-3 gets pretty noisy when you have other pedals in the chain.

Can you get the SansAmp Bass Driver DI in Indonesia?
It's expensive but a very good unit. I played on today through a poweramp. Through a poweramp it really shines.

I have the PD-7 and I used it for years.
I like the PD-7 more if you are going for harder overdrive.

The PD-7 has a more artificial sound to it. For my taste in tone that was good and helped me cut through the mix without sounding like a guitar.
I never used the distortion setting on the PD-7 much: too much unwanted harmonics.
All in all the PD-7 is a great stompbox, good price, no fear of losing lowend.

Based on my experiences for drive pedals I'd choose:

mild overdrive: Sansamp Bass Driver
grind to mild distortion: BOSS MetalZone (but this is for a weird atmospheric sound more)

hard overdrive: Ibanez PD-7
hard distortion: BOSS Metalzone, or the Malleko B:Assmaster (never had to oppurtunity to try a Malleko, but if I ever want a distortion again I order one on good faith.)

fuzz/distortion: EHX Big Muff (I only played a standard American on, but the Bass Big muff would be better I imagine.

These are about the only drive-pedals I have experience with. Experiences with drive-pedals are very different for everyone. (A lot depends on your other gear and your playing.)

Plus drive-pedals have a lot to do with personal taste.

I'm assuming you are on a budget maybe.

So PD-7 versus ODB-3: PD-7 is better IMO.
(No ODB-3 bashing, and I admit I have no experience with the ODB-3 as actually owning that pedal, just testing it out in store.)

Also, in a mix with two guitarists: PD-7 worked the best.

I've played one of those many times, and I'm not trying to bash it, I'm just saying I've had a lot of experience with noise when in use with other pedals. I had a Chorus pedal that give a small volume boost and would reproduce noise before it, and putting that distortion before it caused a lot of unwanted noise. So I got the PD-7 instead, and loving it. To me, the OBD-3 sounds a lot like a PD-7 with a higher price tag.

SansAmp BDDI... yes we have it in Indonesia,but this pedal is way to expensive (for me),but if i could get it , i really would certainly buy it.. :hyper:

I think i'll start saving........

i just got information from Indonesia's Ibanez Distributor (i met him in a local forum) He said that they are trying to get PD7 into Indonesia.. he also said that this pedal was not a succesful in Indonesia's market (very little bass player in Indonesia would buy this pedal) :hmm: that is the main reason they didn't sell it in a couple years.

well BOSS is the major "player" in Indonesia...

Boss is a major player anywhere. Even though some of they're pedals aren't so great sometimes. ;)
