Guitar player rage quit cuz his amp got dinged

This is not my actual Fender (master volume era) Pro Reverb, but it looks very similar to this one. If your gear gets used long enough, it may eventually look this.

Marshalls are stupid expensive now, so I get how the guy could be mad. But putting a beer on it totally cancels that out.

More generally, I might set something on my amp (not a beer!), but I probably wouldn't sit on it. I asked a drummer friend not to sit on my amp once and I think he got a little miffed, but that amp was my entire rig and I couldn't afford to replace it if the cabinet gave out. He honored my request. We were both a little cranky for a few minutes but got over it like the children we are.

Edit: Actually, I had an amp damaged at someone's house. Their cat got to the grille cloth a little bit and I don't like it, but I'm partly to blame for leaving it there.

After he leaves me, drummer, and singer talk about what a crybaby this guy is, and it's probably time to fire him. About 5 minutes go by and drummer gets a text. It's guitar player informing us that he's quitting. We all had a good laugh.

I immediately walked over to the dry erase board and erased all the old, tried classic rock songs we're sick of playing. Within 5 minutes we had a new set list, mostly consisting of songs we wanted to cover but guitar player refused.

This band had become somewhat of a chore for me, but now I'm looking at it with renewed vigor and passion. Drummer and singer feel the same way. We're all really excited to work on the new setlist and find a new guitarist.

Odd. I've found that most men seem to go in one direction or the other the older they get.

I'm 51. It seems each day I get a little more Zen about the things I can't control. I become a little bit more of a softy. I get more emotional about friendships and family. I long for periods of relaxation. I seek out chill people.

Some men get more grumpy as time passes. Irritability seems to be their homeostasis. They find ways to get back to grumpy if they start to chill out too much.

Best of luck with the new guitar player. Good luck to him finding a band that will let him crank up a HUNDRED WATT MARSHALL HEAD!!!!!! (What a ludicrous amp to have in a bar band.) Having that kind of guitar head tells me all I need to know about that guy anyway.

My dad is in his early 70s, and is unfortunately moving in the negative direction. It's not fun for any of us. I have some theories as to why, but I can't discuss them here.

What a douche. Stuff's gonna get dinged if you use it. I remember hearing stories from people that would buy a brand new car and purposely put a little scratch on it somewhere just to take the angst off that it was a pristine vehicle. Now that person could go to bed at night and not worry LOL

Gee, only after the rehearsal he notices a ding under his beer? A ding he probably created himself with a beer that shouldn't be there in the first place. Could you imagine if he spilt the beer on the amp? He would still blame you all for letting him put the beer on his amp. Good riddance for sure as no one needs to put up with that kind of childish behavior, let alone someone his age. Glad it worked out for the rest of the band.

Diva is a good word for it. We have a Friday night hang that has been going on since about 2012, one of the regular guitar players once went off ranting, raving, and screaming for about 30 minutes because the keyboard player moved his newish Vox amp about a foot forward with the wheels locked. Oh my God, the wheels are now flat spotted, the whole amp is ruined. We finally got him calmed down, and sure enough, two hours later, he started up again. He is a good guitar player, 80% of the time he was fine, but the other 20% just made everyone miserable.

Last February, he rage quit for about the third or fourth time, and this time we have not let him back since. It has been so much more peaceful and enjoyable without him there.
