Guitar players corner!

Got my first Fender Stratocaster (that's a keeper) in a long time and I'm extremely pleased.

Player I in polar white and maple. Swapped the modern tuners for the Classic Gear tuners. I have no plans to swap out the pickups because a) I have no knowledge about guitar pickups compared to my vast knowledge of bass pickups and b) the stock ones sound great as is; no need to swap.

White Strat owners unite!

Just bear in mind that in the scenario of a hybrid amp - which is what you have - the circuit may have not been designed to play well with other tube types. You won't damage anything by installing a 12AU7 but it may affect the behaviour of the amp in more ways than just one.

If it were me, I'd order a 12AX7 along with it just in case.

Please keep us posted, I'm quite curious on how this plays out.

Good luck.
I will keep you all posted, but it might be a week or two until I order the new tube.

After viewing a few videos at Youtube, and listening to your advice, ajkula66, I think I will just stick with the standard 12ax7 tube.

As I've said, I never push the amp, and I'm very happy with this amp's clean tones. I don't want to take the chance of messing anything up!

I have been looking at new amps, and the new Roland Jazz Chorus 22 looks nice.

But, other than a noisy tube, there's nothing wrong with my amp.

Thanks for the advice.

Mike

Lovely! And a synth or MIDI controller added from what I can see...thanks for sharing!

I used to own a 535 - their version of ES-335 - and loved it dearly.
535s are great, I’d love to own one. And yeah, Roland GR synth wart, which I think actually looks kind of cool with that headstock. The synth is super fun with the ancient EMU rack sampler I still have. I used to have a VG-8 too, a MIDI switcher, and so on. Carrying all that plus a bass rig for duo and trio gigs was slightly insane, to say the least.

And before someone says those are three string basses, here’s something I’d like…
A The Les Paul, a super fancy wood Les Paul from the Norlin era…
Or at least the headstock

I had three Norling era guitars. A so-so Mark series acoustic, and two 1978 RD Artists. I wish I still had one (or both) of the latter.

My Les Paul is Norlin era, but it’s not the one above

The much-maligned Norlin era was actually the period of real invention when it comes to electric guitars and basses. Sure, some of them would fall into the "what were you people thinking" category, but there's plenty of fine gear from that era IMO.

Some missteps for sure, but some cool stuff.
I don’t look down on it.
There have beens headscratching decisions in all eras of Gibson history
And some cool stuff
