True. I think I am going to get some ultra fine grit papers or pads and hit the strings. I did that a couple of times in the past, and it yielded some fun results. Same for the frets. I haven't used that gorgomyte stuff, but I have frequently hit my frets with an ultra fine 3M pad, and I was always happy with the results.

Haven't hit the frets yet on my MKs, but I just used a 3M ultra fine pad up and down my MK with the EB Earthwood Phosphor Bronze strings. Very, very nice. Yeah, I forgot I used to do this occasionally, and this these last posts reminded me. A little micro polishing on the strings feels real nice. Quite a difference actually. Might be something for you Flats Or Bust folks to try.

I just got a Orangewood Oliver Junior Acoustic bass. I really, really like this bass. I first saw/heard it on Marcus Feldman's YouTube channel.

Very interesting. Never heard of that company, and, that price is - Right.
Looks like they get them built overseas and then set them up in the U.S. If true, that's good stuff.

Got a "SDOTD" on the Ibanez AVNB1E ($250+tax) and I'm anxiously awaiting the tracking info to show up in UPS. I've long wanted an acoustic bass, but having one that will fit in a guitar case is super-intriguing to me...

Sub-guitar scale. Are those full length strings cut to fit the short scale? These strings can tolerate being cut?

I want to share some news about the possibility of a unique string option in the future for our Guitar Scale Acoustic Basses.

I have had the pleasure of corresponding with Mimmo at Aquila over the years. That dialog started during the peak of the uke bass activity - where he came up with much more stable, great sounding synthetic string alternatives for those basses.

Some prototype work has been completed on strings that I believe will target the range of scales 23" to 25".
These will be synthetic strings, but with significantly thinner gauges - much closer to actual metal string thickness. He has been able to significantly increase the tension for the smaller scale, while reducing the thickness.

I have heard audio of the strings, and they sound excellent. I have offered to help test the strings on my 25" scale acoustic basses.

It will be hard to predict when this work will be completed. While the prototype work is far along, the factory is backed up from being shut down for 2 months. They are now back in operation and catching up.

Anyway, I wanted to share this news. Knowing Mimmo, I have to be Very optimistic about these strings.
I will share news on them here as I can.

It's an interesting alternative and those strings may be appealing to some. I don't see them as the solution for me though. Most of the things I disliked about synthetic strings had nothing to do with the gauges. That said, I've been wrong before

NlittleBD! - Got my SDOTD Ibanez AVNB1E today - tuned her up and played a bit. Not the most finely-finished instrument I've ever beheld, but for $250 I'm not complaining - the frets are smooth and seem level, the neck is straight and it plays well.

And, gosh durn it - it's fun! I am a guitar player for many years, and have decided that I needed to play bass to make decent recordings. I actually traded a Reverend Sensei Jr. guitar yesterday for a Schecter Stiletto Studio 5, so this is really a NBDx2, but this is about the little one. It looks nice next to my Martin 000-15 custom, and I'm so tempted to get a double acoustic Mono case for the "twins".
