Gumtown's DIY 500 watt quad 6.5" bass combo

I would love to get more info on those drivers: i.e. where can I get them!? I can't believe just four can handle the amount of power you're throwing at them, and also produce the SPL necessary to compete. I have been very interested in experimenting with smaller driver cabs for a while but very very few drivers are up to snuff.

This is where I got the drivers from (in New Zealand)
Surplustronics - Wide Range Kevlar Cone Woofers - 6.5 Inch 125 Watts RMS - 8 Ohms

Update on progress: Still working well, I may modify the tone circuit, as the 'bright' switch boosts too much treble, and I think a 'deep' switch would be better.
I also have since found the tube preamp circuit is a copy of the old Fender Bassman 'normal' channel.
The Horn blew out, so I have left it disconnected for now, still a great tone coming out from the cab.

It works well in the practice room, (loud rock band) and for small bar gigs, but the SPL falls a little short to try and fill a larger room without some P.A. support (as expected anyway).
The bottom end is deep and tight, a quality I have found hard to find in much (compact) bass gear.

Update: I still use this combo every week, still going strong and keeps up well with loud rock drummers.
I have decided to leave my Marshall stacks at home and use this for most gigs, so easy to carry/drop/play.
If I need more, the built in tube DI does well for the P.A. boost.
Did you ever weigh the completed product?
Looks cool!

I have been meaning to ask about the horn positioning on this. I would have thought that aligning the horn vertically rather than horizontally would seriously reduce dispersion of the highs and make them more focused in a vertical line rather than covering the room side to side. ....... Any one of our resident experts care to weigh in?
I use it more as a stage monitor, so the DI through the PA takes care of the room dispersion.
I am not too much of a fan of excessive bass amp tops, so the Horn is attenuated a fair bit, and it's dispersion has not really been an issue.
I guess the vertical dispersion helps a little with the amp sitting flat on the floor playing to the backs of my legs,
my next addition is to make a fold out kickback stand....

I remember this little combo!

Re. the horn, might be an interesting experiment to set it on its side and walk around it while playing, then try the same thing with it set the usual way -- or vice-versa.

And I felt sorry for the chickens who gave up their head for a knob.

VERY COOL!
