So I went down to a well-respected gun store in town, and had them "sell" me a gun. I ended up handling just about every pistol in 9mm, .40, and even a couple in .45. About 30 or so in total. The gun that was the most comfortable in hand and looking down was a S&W M&P .40, so that's what I ended up getting. Next weekend will be training and taking it to the range (and my very first time shooting a gun......).

Enjoy, I looked at them real hard before I got such a deal on my used Glock with a pile of extras. They fit the hands real nice. Did you get a Rebate? You might want to google S & W rebate, they have been running quite a few nice freebies with the purchase of those guns.

As a side note, the new Interior department regulations may make a me a firearms shopper again. With the ability to carry in National parks I might be looking at a Rueger Alaskan in 454 Cassul. If you've ever been to Katmai in AK, you know about the need for a bear stopper. I won't be practicing with this gun much though.:D

Because a cop is too heavy to carry around...

But seriously, there are many different uses for guns such as

Defense of self
Defense of others (family)
Target shooting
Hunting
etc.

Oh, and the original purpose of the second amendment was so the population of the country would be able to stand up against a tyrranical government, as the founders had done a few years before.

As others have stated, people own guns for various reasons. My personal reasons are:

1. Hunting-Deer, Boar, & Turkey(the shotguns & rifles I own)
2. Home/Business/Self Protection-my 9mm stays near my bed, my .38 Special was underneath the counter when I owned my own business, and my .22 short barrel goes with me when I go fishing because of rattlesnakes and water moccasins.

Sweet! $50 back with the rebate makes it even better of a deal...the dude at the store didn't even mention it, that's weird, as it doesn't cost them anything.

I'm so freakin jealous, I have an ex-seal team operator friend who trains swat teams in Walls, Mississippi, and he's got a nice collection of "little nasties", I've only gotten to shoot a few full-auto firearms before, but man it looks like a lot of fun.
The couple of times I've taken "tactical rifle" training from dude, I've used a mp5sd, an mp5kpdw, and a "spector" m4-9mm suppressed (i think that's what it was called). it was such an awesome time... but man the bar tab gets pricey really quick...
You might can tell I'm a pretty big H&K fan from my gear list.

i own a HK USP in .40, a USP compact in .40 a P7 and a century arms g3 clone... I'd love to get a couple of more, but between that and my Bass GAS list, I don't want a divorce...

Need pics of that P7! Sweet pistols.

I currently have a Vector HK93 clone, a P2000sk in .40, and I'm thinking about building both a G3 and MP5/40 clones. I like HK's the best but I like German weaponry, period. I also have an old K29 Mauser in 8mm and a Walther P22. If I can add a few more Mausers, a P38/P1, a PPK, and an MP44 I will have about quenched my GAS for German firearms! :help:

I know quite a few people that own and shoot class III guns. I really can't justify owning my own. I'd rather spend my money on a real nice RC Heli :) On the other hand, I'm in the process of getting a Gemtech for my .22 and may end up getting one as well for a 9mm. They just add a great cool factor :)

My collection's probably pretty boring to most gun enthusiasts as I'm more into the historical slant of firearms, especiallt bolt action stuff - LOVE the kick.
Here's my arsenal:

British Lee Enfield's
- No.1 mark III
-No. 4 mark I

-Soviet Nagant 91/30
-Finnish Nagant M39

-Yugo Mauser m1924

-Pedersoli Brown Bess flintlock smoothbore (Love this one dearly)
-the ever popular Ruger 10/22 (not historical but fun as heck)
