Guy Pratt EMG on his 64 Jazz bass

in that interview where he's detailing the story of Gilmour giving him that bass, and the subsequent clip of him doing classic disco lines, he's playing a sunburst with pickups with exposed pole pieces - that don't look like any EMG's I've seen.... He might have them installed on the pink bass.

I don't know any details other than what I've seen on Youtube about his gear, but I'd hazard a guess that he might use Betsy in the studio, and has the EMG equipped bass for live use -?

The pink bass is Betsy, and the Youtube vid is mislabeled.

First.
Betsy (a 1964 Jazz Bass in Burgundy Mist) belonged to John Entwistle. In 1987 it was sold to Guy Pratt by Alan Rogan (Pete Townsend's guitar tech) who was selling JE's basses.
It had quiet and noisy pickups, so Guy replaced them with EMGs... and so it remains to this day.
(i don't know what kind or model of EMG pick ups he put)

So, this bass was not given to him by David Gilmour.

Second
The bass that DG gave him as a wedding gift (in 1996) was a 1961 two stack knobs Jazz Bass in Sunburst.

I believe they're EMG J's, or whatever was available in 1987. He said the original pickups had a low output and a tech replaced them while rehearsing with Pink Floyd. So there's a good chance anything you hear from him is done with Betsy. He says it's his favourite bass ever. IIRC he mentioned in his book he used Betsy on the Toy Matinee album. Delicate Sound of Thunder album & video would also feature Betsy.

In '87, EMG only had the original J set; all the other variations - the JA, JCS, JV, X series, passives, etc. - didn't come out until many years later than that. I'm thinking at least ten years later, not sure exactly.
