Guyker Xtender Drop Tuner - How Is This A Thing??

this thread seems to have resurrected and as I said before I have no interest in drop tuners - don't even know what they do and can't be bothered to find out.
However as we've all found out in the past there have been some very suspect quality Chinese hardware either music or I dunno just general stuff like door locks.
I'm with @Pep on this - no longer can Chinese made guitars be considered "crap" as some folks on here say. Chinese luthiers are very talented and have been for over 500 years or more and it does not take a leap of learning to move from traditional instruments to 21st century guitars, but if that base now is good enough for Dingwall - and they're not in the market for losing sales - there is faith in the Chinese workforce to produce quality instruments and seem to actively encourage their products to be more affordable to you and I by being made their and again as @Pep spelled out the QC is undertaken back in Canada, these are by no means cheap but top quality guitars at a 3rd to Half of the price of western made objects.
What is sad is the die hard that anything western is better. This happened with Japanese cars and products in the 70' and 80's they were a joke to US consumers but they started every time and didn't rot on your drive. Ask yourselves why Fender started producing MIJ?, simply because there was a skilled workforce that could produce f7enders at 2/3rd the price of the US and as some will say a better and more consistend quality free from Friday afternoon specials.
It's strange that in the world of tuners no-one these days are shooting down Gotoh but Guyker still seem to be rubbish. I think we all need to examine our prejudices because if you sit as king of the hill for too long US will be overtaken in the quality department apart from the die hard rednecks who will one day be playing cheap copies of Japanese and Chinese hardware imports. And no I am in now way endorsing Chinese products or do I have a "red" agenda, we in the UK thought our industry was the pinnacle of engineering but now we are just niche.

I promise I’m not trying to be argumentative. But returning things is a hassle that I’d rather not inflict upon myself.

Just my perspective.
On that we agree! 👍🙂

This is a bit “off topic” but a similar circumstance. I had a ‘51 P-Bass slab body made by a guy I found online. I used him because he was flexible in giving me a few mods that I wanted.
The body came in today. The great news is everything looks great and fits perfectly. The bad news, it weighs 7-1/2 lbs. fortunately it will have a fairly large pickguard so I can drill some blind relief holes to get the weight down some.

Bottom line: Be sure of what you’re buying. 😂

Sometimes it's just a name, and the cheap stuff is the same production line with nary a difference in the product.
Right, and sometimes it isn’t. And with tuning, I’m not prepared to take a chance. I imagine there are some reviews out there now, but I’m not in the market anyway so I don’t know.

I haven't tried any lightweight ones, but I have for heavyweight and they've been fine. In fact they've generally looked more solid than the ones I had on the L-2000 Tribute I had briefly. They were sadly the worst looking ones I've ever seen. You might get bad ones, but at $20 a set on a couple of projects, they've been no worse than stock ones on a Fender Player II MIM.

I've only had one tuner fail, and that was on my Harley Benton jam session special. My issue there was also the screws - putting new tuners on, the holes didn't quite line up. I drilled new holes just a little too shallow and when the screws hit resistance the heads sheared off. I hate drilling screws out, especially tiny ones.

Maybe. Maybe not. You can tell it’s inferior when you get it in your hands. But by then the purchase is done.
This is true. It doesn't need to be a famous brand name to be good product, but there's still a level of uncertainty when purchasing. Picking a more respected brand of cheaper items (used to be Wilkinson) helps but is also does not confer certainty. Sadly, even major brand names don't do that these days - see my experience with G&L.

Musiclily and Guyker seem to put out decent stuff based on the few samples I've had for projects. Some stuff I see via the big retailers from obscure OEMs can look terrible. Fleor and Artec pickups seem fine. A bought a no name preamp, though, for a project and the centre detents are almost worthless and the halves of the stacked pots don't move independently very well. That I would give a miss in future. Artec I would probably trust.

Artec pickups are very good, I put one of their lipsticks in my bass and the quality is spot on and around 1/3rd the price of the Danelectro. Another great pickup manufacturer is Roswell their pickup range is really well made and sound very good too.

I have a Harley Benton Enhanced. I replaced the pickups with Artec. It improved the sound!

I bought the RB-414 some years ago and was massively impressed with the stock Artec neck toaster mini humbucker. I did change it out for a Roswell Filtertron type but just as a "what if?" there was a difference in sound sure, but I could never pick one over the other.I sold the RB a couple of years ago complete with the Roswell but still have the Artec in the draw fur future projects, its a keeper.

Musiclily and Guyker.

Both do the exact same as Fender. They get parts bearing their logo, or just in bags bearing their logo, from factories in China and Korea.

The Babicz bridges are made by Sung IL, so are Wilkinson bridges. I suspect the Kluson Hi-Mass and Badass also come out the Sung IL factory, the WD Music bridges certainly do :)

WD Music have their Kluson brand tuners made in Korea but their Grovers come from China. Big player for tuning pegs in Korea is Jin Ho so I wouldn't be surprised if both Kluson and Hipshot licensed come from there. Wilkinson also have tuning pegs made by Jin Ho.

Fender gets pickups and pickup parts from Roswell in Korea :D

TB is a funny place. You'll hear folk bitching about stuff from countries A and B, most completely unaware they been using stuff from those countries for years

I can't even pronounce the guy's surname which is why most anglican spawn struggle with too many C's and Z's put together. I'll wager it doesn't sound like we would phonetically pronounce it though. My wife bless her - born in Walsall with the thickest Black Country accent is purely Polish, from Polish parents who moved here to fight with the Free Poles in WW2.
Never met the dad, he died when she was 11, all I knew was her mom and I asked her once where where in Poland she came from, she told me it was called Mwava and when she wrote it out she drew ;Mława
The babby guy is he Austrian or Swiss I remember reading somewhere, his bridges if you believe the hype are second to none with an infinite or only one number of moving parts that work in 5 dimensions 😉 should not all of us be using this miracle and dropping everything else? If what you say is true, I chuckle it is not birthed at CERN, merely in the foundries of Korea.
Slow day Davie, tek care mate. 👍

I am sure Roswell does good stuff, I just didn't like the ones in the bass. A bit on the dark side/not very lively. Not that the Artecs were night and day.

I have a 2020 Fender and the pickups I rate as 'ok'. Maybe they are Roswell's too. Maybe I'll get some more Artecs :)
I'm replying to your thread but this isn't for you. 👍
I've said this before, - but before I say it let's consider this. EMG or SD will polarise a lot of people on here and both camps have their fanboi whores. At the end of the day a pickup is a physical object made of copper wire and magnets. I just don't get it that some people have been sniffing corks for so long the cork has made it's way into their brains and affected their worldview.
As much as we'd like to believe, US made pickups are not magically wound on the thighs of US blonde virgins with the blessing of the Christian God, there is absolutely no difference between a pickup made in China or Korea to a McNelly made in Canada or a Fralin made in the US excepting the number of winds and the magnets, all mined from the Earth in almost all parts of the World. It's called physics, does the pickup care where the copperhas come from, will it refuse to work in geopolitically diverse parts of the world as it does not agree with the views of that country?
All this snobbery about pickups is astounding, did anyone care before in the 70's and 80's?
The way I see it is we have the choice to say I don't like them Quarter Pounders or them Geezers. All of us are unique, what floats my boat may make you think what drugs is this guy on?
I'll say that Roswell has a big catalog of pickups and Artec too and there ain't one size fits all. But people are deluded to think there's anything special just because the manufacturer's spiel say their pickup is better it is all entirely subjective about how YOUR mind perceives the sound and if it released the golden mix of endorphins to give you the buzz. But the guy sitting next to you may think your sound is lack9ng as everything is subjective.
Only YOU will like what you've carefully chosen and spent many hundreds of dollars on for YOU. Other may think you sound like dog poo.
End of the day it's entirely subjective, but when you open your wallet and shell out for something you are told by the mad men will turn you into Stanley Clark, you have to take a step back and ask yourself, Really?

@TeeSee brings up an interesting point and YES, “I drank the grape KoolAid!”

I thought the Lakland Neo-Punch P-Bass pickups and the Kiesel SCP (P-Bass) pickups were better than anything else on the market and sad to say I bought quite a few sets in the past.
I’ve been using the Wilkinson WOPB Ceramic P-Bass Pickup with great results.
Don’t overthink, or overpay, for pickups.

Lakland Neo-Punch P-Bass Pickup ———————- $186.00
Kiesel SCP P-Bass Pickup ––——————————— $149.00
Wilkinson WOPB Ceramic P-Bass Pickup ————- $ 21.59

You ought to try some Wilkinson Ceramic pickups., either WOPB (P-Bass) or WOJB (J-Bass). You won’t be disappointed.
