Guys wearing "skinny" pants

I love the responses "why do you care what pother people wear?!" with this air of indignation. News flash for ya trendsucker:

If YOU didn't care so much about what other people are wearing, why'd you put on the ridiculous hipster panties in the first place?

For every one guy that looks OK in them, there are several hundred who only THINK they look OK in them, lol.

This bro is mad.

You started an opinion thread about something and now are upset that not everyone agrees with you?

I'm not of the ones that asked why you cared but i do care what i wear anyway. And people will make assumptions based on what i wear, part or even maybe most of which will be wrong. But somewhere in there there will possibly be some truth about who i am. this is the idea of clothes (well not originally no...it was just to be warm and protect). They are always making a statement about you and you should always make sure it's making one that represents you (if you don't care about clothes and look like you don't care, then that's part of the statement you're making...which is fine...i'm just saying anyone who think they aren't saying anything with the way they dress are wrong, you always are)

Like someone said, this is like a ten year old trend. And it kinda hasnt gone away. Which tells me it's because more people think it looks good then the opposite. Jeans dont have to be skinny, for one they dont work on everyone. But they should never be too roomy either. Otherwise they do look ten times more unflattering then the skinniest skinny jeans. the worst era for jeans was still he early 90's. With those high waisted jeans. Man those were terrible.

Of all the hipster fashion, skinny jeans are probably the least offensive (well no, Converse are but they had been around and worn by almost every single demographics and subculture that came before so **** hipsters, you dont own the converse look). Judge not the hipster on their skinny jeans, but on the scarf, glasses and hat they chose to wear with it. I think basic hipster men fashion is kinda fine. It's when they try to out hipster each other with random colored retro jackets and glasses and such that it becomes worthy of a eyeroll.

Basically, the more ironic a hipster is being, the more deserving they become of a punch in the face. Like this one i recently saw with a Phil Collins But Seriously... shirt. I couldn't tell whether they were going for "haha, Phil Collins...that's funny brah" or if they were trying to outhipster everyone by making a powerful statement that Phil Collins music is cool and hoping to spark a discussion on his need to be rehabilitated and embraced by the hipster community. A normal person into Phil Collins would just be into Phil Collins. But for a hipster to be into Phil Collins, they either have the choice of keeping it secret from everyone OR go the potential trendsetter route and try to convince every other hipster that Phil Collins is not lame mainstream pop, but a talented melodist, a trailblazing pop master crafter that all hipsters should feel a kinship to. Next thing you know everyone is wearing a Phil Collins shirt and NOT understanding the amazingness of Collins music would get you shunned from the hipster community.

Either reason they wore that shirt, i knew one thing for sure, their **** was all ********.

When I hear "stretchy" in relation to jeans, it reminds me of the cheesy designer spandex jeans of the '70s and early '80s.

My guess is people will look back with embarrassment on their skinny-jeans photos in 20 years, just like the people who wore Sergio Valentis do now.

My jeans, meanwhile, are styled pretty much the same now as they were then--plain Levis, not skintight but not baggy. There's something to be said for the classics.

Levi 501's in my waist/inseam size won't fit over my thighs.

...and I'm 6', 160lbs.

Y'all folks must have toothpick legs.

Yeah 6'1", 150-160lb and 501s about a couple inches over waist size just fit. Ideally I would have 501s from the knees up, with a taper and smaller waist. Then you have to worry about cheap denim. I'm currently pretty happy with unbranded 221s, although they need more rise. I might try a smaller size 501STF, my current pair is loose since I bought at a higher weight.

Bonobos......you'll find what you need.

I just think people should wear clothes that fit, and apparently "fit" is very subjective. Superman (no need to google image fat guy in superman costume) wears spandex because gosh darn it he can pull it off. Fat folks in fitting clothes that do nothing but redistribute the bulge to some other place where it comes flaying out like a thin spot in an inner-tube...not so much.

She's not laughing because she's impressed...

Holy hell.

There is a difference between MENS skinny jeans and girl pants, those are actually girl pants you can tell by the length of the crotch. I have never worn girl pants, but skinny jeans yes and if my junk looked like that in them I wouldnt wear them. I am also SKINNY.

I don't wear them and can't; I'm too stocky. I see guys with my build trying to wear them and it's not a good look.

As an aside, I still remember when emo became a thing (different to its previous incarnation as a subgenre of 'soft' pop-punk alla Jimmy Eat World) and it was before skinny jeans were widely available. I distinctly remember knowing at least two guys who bought women's jeans. A bass player guy on the MX Forums freely admitted to it too. Given that hipster jeans (as in low-cut jeans, not ironic sloppy vintage contrarian jeans) were all the go at the time, it was buttcracks galore for these guys.

I'm not judging though. Live and let live, wear and let wear.

And yeah, die hipster scum. The day Pitchfork and Tiny Mix Tapes go offline will be a good day for music and men's jeans.

Either way, I think that person somehow met their goal if they got you thinking that deeply about a Phil Collins shirt. :D

I have had some unfortunate encounters with ironic hipsters. Things I've heard:

"My electro-acoustic minimalist banjo side project..."

"All of my original copies are all scratched up, so I just downloaded a whole heap of ELO."

"Kanye is amazing."

"I'm really getting into Norwegian black metal. Mostly stuff from around 1990 and 1991, you know."

"Have you got any Black Flag? I should probably know some Black Flag."

"I hate jazz, and I hate Jack Kerouc."

"Mastodon, yeah they're amazing. I've heard really good things. Opeth? Never heard of them." (Pitchfork watchers will get that one)

"I didn't have anything when I moved here. I was getting up at 4am to work in a bagle shop. It was tough. I didn't have any of my instruments. So I saved up for, like, ever, and went into this quirky little music store. All I could afford was a ukulele, so I bought that."

"Intersectionality."

But seriously, I'm waiting for nu-metal to come full circle. The day a reissue of Limp Bizkit's Significant Other gets a review by Birkut on Tiny Mix Tapes will be my day of vindication. I will also be reforming my high school rap metal band.

I doubt it. Because culturally we seemed to have peaked. Music has not changed in over ten years. Fashion neither (like i said skinny jeans have been around for ten years and don't seem intent on leaving). We ran out of things to come up with so we just decided to keep on reviving past decades. We also cherry picked the best fashion of every decade. This is why plaid trousers have never come back but tight jeans and t shirts have (seriously there was nothing more ridiculous looking then the extra baggy t shirts we all wore in the 90's). Sure sometimes they try to bring back horrible fashion. Like hipsters tried to revive short shorts on men for little while, but it failed. Thank god. Because we remember.

@Milk. I didn't start the thread, I enjoy mocking hipsters, (regardless of trendy clothing choices), and I type like a philosophy grad student.

You're right you didn't. I jumped the gun. Cause that's what i do. I like to make assumptions and generalizations before checking all the facts.

A few years ago it wasn't Kanye but Justin Timberlake that most hipsters decided was totally cool and ok to listen to.

For a while i knew too many people in noise bands... It used to be when you could barely play but wanted to be in a band, you played punk. But punk man, that's too commercial, no, and pop punk ruined it, and you actually have to learn at least two chords! Noise is much better. You just randomly strum and hit notes with ********* of effects. the challenge is of course replicating your randomness so it makes a song. But let's face it, it doesn't matter, nobody is gonna remember how the "song" sounded the last time around. I'm not someone who gives much value to musicianship, but jesus... that was just ridiculous. And the noise scene is so self congratulatory, the only people who listen to noise bands are other noise bands, and they all circle jerk each other (hipsters are actually pretty good at that, its such an incestuous "scene").

The basic problem with hipsters is theyre insecure and need to let everyone know how different and sophisticated they are. Sometimes its being into noise music. Sometimes its only watching experimental films or film released between 1920 and 1960 (i knew a guy like that, everytime they mentioned a film they mentioned what year it came out...). Now they could be into these things and just enjoy them. But a hipster has to let everyone know that their tastes both different from the masses AND vastly superior. It's all about being "interesting", really. That's why they also have fashion that goes over the top. A typical hipster suffers from an acute case of "LOOK AT ME, I'M DIFFERENT!" syndrome. Unsurprising that most of them are middle class white kids (which i am incidentally and yes, for a second there many years ago, i thought i might have been a hipster). Its an identity crisis thing, really.

One of the most popular hipster quote btw is "i don't even know who ::insert name of currently super famous pop star everyone, even them, has obviously heard of here:: is"

Saggy butt, skinny leg jeans look uber stupid. On everyone. Really. If you think you don't look like an idiot in them, you are sadly mistaken.

For anyone asking "what do you care what other people wear?" To that I will offer that "care" might be a strong word.

Instead, I'll ask a question back at you: "why are you wearing pants that are RIDICULOUSLY unflattering (at best) and way more often than not, make the wearer look like nothing but another hipster trendoid fad-sucker who is trying to inhale the world through his anus?"

Just like the waist band below the butt in the 90s, or even bellbottoms in the 70s. They make the wearer look stupid/fad-humping beyond polite description.

Yeah, lol. Expressing yourself? By purchasing pants designed to fit you badly, and make you look like an (expletive deleted) putz, while exploiting your need to look like every other hipster doofus fad-sucker?

Way to go "trend setter"! :p

Any other questions?

Just saying, I wore skinny jeans back in 2006 (6th grade) well before they became popular.
I got made fun of, but then about 4 years later, the very kids who made fun of me for those pants were wearing them.
So, I don't just follow the trend.

Can't comment on the skinny jeans, never wore them or understood them, but hey that's there biz not mine. I'm here to defend the soiled honor of the cargos I'm seeing disapproval of! ;). Most my leg coverings are hand me downs from my 8 inch taller and at least 60lbs heavier siblings. I buy bass gear instead of better clothes cause my clothes are functional but hey they aren't the worst thing in the world.

Honestly I can't believe that there's even a thread on style in a forum for bass of all things. Oh well.

I would've been the guy getting made fun of for saggy clothes in high school because at 5' 11 and 135lbs I had to spring for either 32 34's or have cold ankles any time I sat down.
