Braces button on usually(buttons on inside of waistband), suspenders clip on. The second is more of an off-the-cuff solution, the first is a pre-planned solution to a problem that may not even exist. Some guys wear suspenders or braces who are not fat and could easily wear a belt so they don't drop trow -assuming they have a shortage of booty to help out. It's actually quite liberating to wear some slightly loose dress pants and not relying on butt or gut to hold up your pants. Especially if you are going to dance.

The single leg thing is a garter. A garter belt does both legs. They are both intended to hold up stockings. Men often wore garters before the advent of elastic materials. I just learned this from wikipedia.

I would say the most pop culture association with suspenders would be Matt Smith at the moment, though. The series has a much broader reach than a movie.

I'd personally go with a more fitted shirt, but that's a pretty solid ensemble!

The Beatle bass brings it together. It just wouldn't work with a Warlock or Thunderbird. :D
