U.S.A. - A musical State of Mind ...
I'm surprised to find no mention of this on TalkBass. Although McCartney is my favorite bassist of all time, and I love the Höfner sound, I admit to not being a fan of the violin shaped bass ... by any brand. I do, however, aspire to someday find a Höfner Club bass accessible and available to me for possible g.a.s. relief.

Some reports seem to imply only a company restructuring, hopefully with production and sales continuing. I do hope that's the case.

What are you thoughts?

Here's one TB thread: https://www.talkbass.com/threads/höfner-files-for-insolvency.1680966/

I saw at least two threads here on TB shortly after the news broke.

They have a singular sound when well recorded. Nicolas Godin with AIR is a favorite. I think Mike Viola records his bass parts on Höfners. They're quality control has been absolutely terrible though, at least over the past couple of decades. I bought a "Cavern" Club 500/2 German-made bass back in 2013. Special ordered it sight unseen. Big mistake.

Anyway, I hope they get things sorted and get their QC under control.

They were popular because Paul picked one up one day in a pawn shop. I don't think many young people know or care about the Beatles enough to want the bass he played.

Yeah i feel like the Beatles are finally hitting the point of irrelevancy, sadly. Like you said, younger music fans don't seem to gravitate to them. My generation was born in the 80's and amongst my friends were alot of Beatles fans even though we weren't alive in that era. I doubt people born in the 2000's are going to go that route.

I mentioned it. :smug:

They're currently in bankruptcy protection which commenced on December 11/25. The courts have given the company 90 days to find new investors and return the company to profitability. If they don't then the court will force them to close at which point the company will become insolvent and cease to exist under its current structure.

The court will appoint a trustee who will be responsible for selling off the companies assets and paying off listed creditors. I hope this doesn't happen. 🤞

I’m not so sure. YouTube is awash in millennials listening to old rock music for the first time. Beatles is a mainstay of the trend and these kids are astonished that music like that exists. They are sick of listening to soulless electronic crud, and hearing humans playing real analog instruments seems to fill a hole in their souls.

These kids may start their YouTube channels to make bank, and end up discovering what their lives are missing. Rush, Led, Beatles, The Who, Stones, Queen, Stevie Ray, The Clash, and the Sex Pistols, etc. are blowing new minds again.

Hip hop and electro are now old music genres… just recycled nothing new. Nothing inspiring. Nothing new in the pipeline. The kids aren’t alright. Real human music is blowing them away. Wonderful lyrics and stories are capturing their attention. And it not just kids, it’s Gen Z hip hoppers and club music bred people in their 30’s discovering the great old stuff.

The old music is so fantastic, I believe it will always bubble up as current genres age out and leave a void of innovation. I mean where can music go now? Rap, electro, etc are old news now. Where can music move now? The only thing I can imagine is AI generated, which we all know will become boring fast if it even acquires any attention. It’s merely Muzak.

No sir, old rock is too amazing and human to become irrelevant IMO. It comes back in waves and always will.
