H1N1 Hype

Do you guys still think it is mostly the media creating hype about the virus, or do you think it is actually going to get bad. I am starting to think it's not all hype because our schools have been closed due to illness for the rest of the week. (WOO!) But, it is kind of scary because the first few cases of H1N1 happened last week and today I heard my principal talking and he said over 400 people at our school are absent because of it and that our nurses were sending 20 people home an hour with ffever and other flu-like symptons.

More people have died from the regular yearly influenza the from H1N1.
Back in the 60's they tried the same garbage and more people died from the vaccine than the virus and regular virus.

It's all bull **** set in to scare and influence people, number one rule in politics : never waste a good disaster, in this case to get peoples minds off the economy and incompetence of the cats running the show.


especially not worried since I work on public computers at a k-12 school day in, day out, my immune system is tempered steel!!!

Sums up my views. This won't be much worse than regular flu season.

I'm not worried.

Yup, all hype. I'm sure it's not all hype if you're elderly or have a weak immune system but, then again, you're probably worried about every little bug under those conditions. I usually get a flu shot every year at work and so far I've been lucky with only head and chest colds. It does help to work in a large factory with over 1000 people coughing all over each other too. I'm pretty immune to a lot of stuff that goes around.

I realize that more people die from the regular flu, but I have never seen something spread so fast. I am not one of those people who actually buy what the media says about this stuff, but going to lunch where there is usually several hundred people and there only being 200 tops is really weird. I'm not worried aout everyone dying, I just don't want to catch it lol.

It spreads faster and is hitting a wider age group than regular flu (yes younger folk can get flu, but it doesnt spread as quickly).

It has the potential to cause a lot of havoc. Even if it doesnt end up killing millions, it could have a pretty nasty affect on the social infrastructure of a country if a lot of folk end up sick at the same time :p

Thankfully tho, it doesnt seem to be going that bad! Just hope it stays that way!

And in a sense your doctor is right, just a cold that spreads quicker and hits you harder :p

Its bull, im mexican, it "started" here after Obama visited, and while that was all over the news, they legalized personal ammounts of drug so yeah Like Pen n Teller would say

You people that are saying you won't get it because your regular exposure to sickness has built up your immunity do not seem to understand the nature of antibodies and new forms of viruses. This thing is spreading like wildfire because NO ONE has immunity to it. Our bodies haven't seen it before. Yeah, it's more mild than regular flu but here in Texas it's causing havoc for school districts and employers. My wife has been diagnosing flu after flu this week which is never the case this time of year. A couple of surrounding districts are already seeing hundreds out and I have the feeling
mine is comin soon. We've got our first five out with H1N1 today.

Come on now, how fast does the yearly cold that nearly everyone gets every year spread?
