It was on, but I wasn't watching. I knew going in I wouldn't like it. To me, the most outrageous spectacle of the night was Lady Gag Me totally destroying the national anthem. Even when she wasn't warbling through the scale trying to impress us with her vocal gymnastics, she was making up her own melody. Maybe that's okay for some mindless pop tunes, but I don't like it at all for the national anthem.
Show a little respect, *** (word edited so I don't get banned.)

I didn't care for her drawn out Anthem either, but every single comment I read about it was overwhelmingly positive. I think you and I are the only two negatives.
A lot of people like her style. I've had an FB friend who has been arguing with me over this since last night. Yeah, okay, technically, she is a good singer. I don't care much for that style, but that isn't the issue. It seems every year they get some diva who wants to impress us with her vocal "styling". They proceed to warble their way through it at a dirge pass trying to amaze people with how she can wonder all around a note without ever actually hitting it and when they aren't warbling, they invent their own melody. I'm okay with that for pop music, but to me, it is disrespectful to the flag.

I thought she took less liberties with it than most do. For my money, the best renditions I've ever heard are:

1. Whitney Houston
2. Dixie Chicks (very close to a tie for 1st)
3. Lada Gaga last night

Some people make that thing sound stale and labored. Gaga sang it like she really was proud to be an American. I thought it was fantastic!

She sang it like she was proud to be Lady GaGa. Happy you enjoyed it.

1. Whitney Houston...

"A lot of people didn't know it at the time, but several years ago, the late Whitney Houston resorted to lip-synching when she performed the anthem, with the Florida Orchestra, before Super Bowl XXV in Tampa Stadium.
The orchestra track was recorded at Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center earlier in January. Whitney's track was put on in California, according to the former executive director of the orchestra.
At the game everyone was playing, and Whitney was singing, but there were no live microphones. Everyone was lip-synching or finger-synching. And no one knew.
She was a fantastic singer and her recording was outstanding..."

I think her touring/traveling around the world made her realize that the USA is the greatest country in the world - the one and only!

Gave me goosebumps.
I wan't trying to be a smartass, Mellow. I just don't like that vocal style. I know a lot do, and if you enjoyed it, great.
I can see where it is fine to invent your own melody for a pop tune, but I think the national anthem should be held in higher regard than that. To me it is like throwing the flag on the ground and stomping on it.
I understand I'm in the minority here, but that is my honest feeling about it.
But Denver winning made up for it.
