halftime

The National Anthem was fine. True, I like the traditional rhythm and scale; but it was not distasteful.

Bruno is quite an entertainer. His dancing reminded me of a young Michael Jackson, without having to clutch his tinkle.

Beyonce absolutely disgusted me. She used her appearance to celebrate the terrorist black panther movement, to celebrate the socialist malcom x, and to call for "justice' for a criminal thug that didn't follow law enforcement commands. My true feelings for this classless wench are best not posted on a public forum.
What criminal "thug" are you speaking of? I guess I missed that part.

I thought halftime was a bit lame. But then again it typically is in my opinion. I know a lot of people are freaking out about rainbows and black lives matter stuff but I didn't really mind that.

I guess I'm just tired of America when it comes to music. I mean you look at other countries throwing these huge festivals and being very successful and here in America it's the same old recycled pop music from 1997. The rest of the world appreciates new music and new artists that never seem to get heard in America.

I guess Marvin Gaye's version at an NBA game, much revered by many, REALLY urinates off a lot of TBers since no one else mentioned it. Loved it then, still do. I find the most uninspiring versions, where you look around and few are singing along, and everyone is just enduring it because it's the national anthem, are the very well trained vocalist(s) singing it in what is now considered the "traditional" style. The shout of "Play ball!" usually has way more group participation.

Other than the tempo (which was said done to have been to accommodate the fly over), Gaga toyed with it a lot less than many of her peers I've heard. Girl's got pipes, without doubt. And, fwiw, I like how she uses 50's Doo Wop melodies and choruses in some of her original stuff. too. YMMV.

Halftime was terrible. Three styles of music which blended poorly. Out of everything, the P Bass sounded fantastic! And why was Beyonce not singing much and doing a lame rap? The ending was a bit stupid. How about we just pay a tribute to other Super Bowl artists since we can't agree on what song to collaborate on?

Aren't there other bands out there? Do we need to bring bands back a second time?

I'm not. It seems pointless. All the flag waving and chest pounding seems like useless posturing..

I can understand that. I don't get down with patriotism of the chest-pounding variety.

For me, I've been to enough places around the world where things truly suck, that I very much appreciate the freedom and prosperity in the U.S.. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. But, I digress...

That's what happens during a defensive game, the offense gets shut down. And there was many good defensive plays.

I'm a fan of the defensive game, and of course you are right about the nature of one. To this viewer, though, it seemed like Cam Newton was just off his game...his rhythm was off, his throws were bad, and he missed opportunities. Some of it was defensive pressure, and some just looked like poor execution. How much is defense and how much is his head not being in the game/injury/etc, I don't know.

Even according to your source (a shocking choice, lol), he wasn't mentioned during the halftime show.

The people who are hating on Gaga over some self induced concept of what constitutes patriotism are - uh... Deluded? Poisoned by political rhetoric? I don't know.

Bottom line - like it or not, that woman is easily one of the most talented vocal performers ever. Her rendition of The SSB was far more Broadway inspired than anything - surprised that hasn't been mentioned. She was thrilled to be singing it, she was proud to be singing it. So what if it didn't fit your view of how the world is supposed to look and sound? Nobody cares! Now - go check out her stuff with Tony Bennett - her talent level is off the chart.
