Halfway through 2025. How's your GAS?

We're officially at the halfway mark in 2025. How have you done with new gear?

So far this year, I have 2 new basses, both Ericks: a custom build 6 and a holly top 5 that I picked up around the end of February/1st of March. They're both extremely nice. I love, love, love Elrick basses... so much so that I sold all my other basses.

Of course, I've got th have a 4 to go with the 5 & the 6. So, I also bought back an Elrick NJS that I had sold a year or so ago. It's my favorite bass I've ever owned, with the best action of any bass I've ever played (you don't know what you got til its gone). It was a real joy to get it back!

The GK rig was also a new purchase in March.

I did have a couple of NBD fails, as well... A Korean retailer sent me the wrong bass. And I had a Nash that got returned because of an electrical issue.

I don't have my eyes on anything else for the 2nd half of this year. I'm having so much fun playing these basses. They're all soooo great. It's wild! I'm not really interested in any other basses. Is my GAS cured???

Doubtful.

:laugh::rollno:

I haven’t purchased anything this year . My last purchase was before Christmas, in mid December. It was the BFR Moonbeam.
You are smitten with Elrick and It’s EBMM StingRay Specials for me. My Sandberg is also just as nice. I’m not interested in a NBD for myself . I’m truly satisfied and thankful for what I have.

6 basses is more than enough and I can’t see myself letting any of them go.

Got a Behringer Brassmaster, fretless partscaster, a few DIY pedals (not yet built), a Marina acoustic for my mum, and an Epiphone SJ-200 Coupe for my girlfriend.
Thinking of getting an Arialembic, a Bass VI or Danelectro or Rivoli, a Behringer octave divider, and an Aguilar preamp or Amplug.

This year has been a struggle.

I started out trying to not buy anything and take lessons instead. I'm doing pretty good on the lessons. First I went accessory crazy. Then I started getting my guitars and basses modded the way I've always wanted them. Then I bought a vintage Silvertone. Now I'm gassing hard for a 5 string that I don't need.

The flipside is I donated gear to a local non profit and have sold a bunch of pedals recently. And since I just went over the tax threshold, I might as well keep going. Maybe I'll sell more pedals and then I can get that 5 string with a clear conscience.

I’m only 8 or so basses in so plenty of room to go 😆

Mainly killing time trying interesting things that pop up until my custom 32” 5 string jazz is ready.

The ones that have stayed that were acquired this year:

And the bass that kicked off GAS for the year - the McGrath Thunderhorse

I’ve got a streamer lx jazzman 5 on the bench that will probably stick around once I get it in top shape. It’s super light for a Warwick and I’m really enjoying it.

Things I’m keeping an eye out for:
- Elrick 5 strings
- Ebony board Stingray Special 5s
- Spector Euro5 (maybe an RST)
- Sadowsky 5ers
- Full scale Serek 5

Basically always hunting lightweight 5ers that have a comfortable first position reach on a strap and a great B string.

No GAS. Bought 5 sets of strings.

I’m REALLY wanting to check out a Dingwall SP1 5 string, but we’ll see. And I’d love to move off my Subway 112 and 115 cabs for 2 Subway 210’s…

and a 5 string Pbass with 16.5mm spacing with Warwick Thumb pickups and preamp (yeah I know there’s the Fodera Ryan Martinie model but I can’t fathom paying 68hundo for one, but that’s essentially what I want)

I’m in a good place with gear and am very happy.

It's bad. I purchased two Vigiers this year. The purple one is the final bass out of the factory unless things change.

Additionally, I've a Suhr and ACG on order expected sometime this year. This is the top for the ACG.

I totally echo your sentiment on the Czech made Elricks. Easily the most comfortable bass I've ever played. I haven't played one of the US basses but I know they are supposed to be even better!

I have been remarkably restrained for a few years. My last bass purchase was 2023 and my last amp purchase was 2021 (I think). I'm not complaining - I have 10 basses and 3 amp rigs.

I'm currently building a new house and Mrs Jughead6 has agreed I can buy my first double bass once we move in later this year.
I played upright in high school jazz band back in the 90’s. Hated lugging that thing around. I’ve toyed with the idea of getting an NS electric upright, but I can’t justify it as I have no real use for one. Maybe after I retire… 20+ years from now lol.

No bass GAS in 2025, but I bought my first ever guitar - my Schecter C1 SLS Evil Twin.

Me too! I haven't acquired a new bass since November 2022.
I bought 6 since 2018 but am holding on to 2 of those 6. They are lifers. Still holding on to my old school Ibanez ATK305 and my wife’s Blacktop Fender P, but they haven’t been properly played (or cases even opened) in over a year. Sentimental value.

But the fretted and fretless Stingrays? Man oh man.

That top on the ACG looks insane.
