Just curious about favorite neck carving tools. I want to go the hand route but open to suggestions if a router is the better idea. Right now looking at starting with a spokeshave and rasp then sand..

I start by rounding the sides with a 3/4" round over. Then finish with a Shinto rasp, files and sand paper

I never knew there were more than one size. It doesn't really matter in this application.
My favorite tool for rough shaping necks is an electric angle grinder with a 4 1/2" 60-grit disk. Over the years, I've tried just about everything else, and the angle grinder is still the fastest and simplest way to remove the bulk of the wood, with the least risk of accidental damage. With a little practice, I've found that I can control it quite accurately by hand, following templates and guidelines.
After the angle grinder, I go to a 12" Bastard half-round file, then 8" 2nd and Smooth files, then true it out with 120 grit paper on long blocks.

Rasp, files, coarse sand paper, furniture scraper, sometime spokeshave. Belt sander for corners.

After that mold a folded vynil record to a neck I like to get contour and sandpaper.
I've only finished a few, but I used the record trick a bunch to reprofile necks.
I would like to find a spoke shave that takes disposable razor blades like the kind in utility knives. Is that available? Google let me down. Any ideas on how to make one? Sharp tools rules.
