Hanewinckel Piccolo 7-string!

Oh, I've seen purple woo... ohhhh, you mean tree wood.

:p

That is a gorgeous piece of wood. Is it acrilyzed or anything to make it harder? I dunno much about spalted woods, but I thought they were rotten, which means they'd be soft... correct me if I'm wrong.

Spalted wood is caused by a fungus. Burl is a kind of abnormal growth pattern.

I'm not sure what, if anything, will be done to it to make it harder. It may not need it.

Ever see purple wood before? :D

Hmm, yeah - purpleheart. ;)

Anyway - that looks great. I hope it keeps the blue tint - Adrian Garcia's F-bass top started out like that, but was more of a green/yellow when finished. But I've seen other basses that kept the blue (some Foderas come to mind). It should be pretty awesome either way!

Yeah, well, "purpleheart" is really a misnomer since it's really closer to magenta. :D

I'm sure that however it ends up looking, it will look great.

I've just put in my order for a new Hanewinckel Signature series Piccolo 7-string. Pete has a really wicked burl top that he's going to use. He's going to get me a pic as soon as he lays out the body on it.

That's the new Retro body style. It's not at his site yet ( http://www.hguitars.com/ ). It'll have a set neck. Bartolini pickups. Chrome hardware. The other woods, we haven't totally nailed down yet. I told Pete to pick what he thought was best. I've trusted his judgement in the past an he's never let me down. Oh yeah, it'll have lighted side-dots too!

It'll be tuned like my other 7-strings but an octave higher. BEADGCF

I'll post the new pics as I get them. Pete's going to try to have it done in time for NAMM.

:D

Man, I REALLY like that body design. It's my favorite one of his shapes. Can't wait to see it finished. How many frets will be on it?
