Hey guys not sure this is the right forum or not but I bought some string swing slat wall hangers I want to hang two rows of basses and guitars in my music room. I have eight foot ceilings so I need to get them spaced out as best as possible. I planned to hang the basses on the top and the guitars on the bottom. Here is my question for the guys who have done something like this, how much room do I need to leave between the hangers and the ceiling so I can hang the guitars without bumping the headstocks off the ceiling? It's just me doing this so trying to hold the basses hangers to find a measurement would be very hard, that's why I asked.

That's gonna depend mostly on how much finesse you have. A couple inches higher than the headstock is all that would be necessary.
i used to hang my bass on the wall but it was so heavy the wall wore down so now my guitar is hanging and my bass is on the ground
Mine are 10 inches from the ceiling. Biggest headstock, Fender bass, clears the ceiling just fine (but I usually hang my lightest guitars the highest).
You definately need to go as close to the ceiling as possible so that your bottom row is still over the 30+ inches off the floor they need to have to hang a 34 inch scale bass.
Agreed on the double four, but the OP doesn't need to defy the law of physics, he just wants a little measurement ! Wrong thread maybe ?
And yes, depends on how you put the basses back in their hanger, if you don't propell them too high, you don't need much clearance other than the height of the headstock plus 2 to 3 inches.
Maybe you can have more if you install them staggered with the guitars, not just over one another ?

Measure your longest headstock and add 12"-18", depending on desired look. That should give you plenty of room to hang and remove without hitting your ceiling.
I plan to install them into the studs and I'm using the slatwall strongwall aluminum slats plus the hangers. I plan to stager them not only side to side but also in depth I bought 4 inch Long hangers and 2 inch long hangers I'm going to put the basses on top with the 2 inch deep hangers an the guitars on the bottom with the 4 inch deep hangers for a stepped look.
I don't plan on any propelling of my basses lol. I'm very gentle with my babies and add to that I'm 6'3 in a 8 foot room lol so I won't need to reach far

Mine are about 9" from the middle of the saddle (?) thingy where the bass sits and the ceiling. That works for everything but a Fender 5er. A Fender 5er (and 4s) need to be turned slightly to remove. Remember, a Fender headstock is 9" from tip to nut.
I would recommend 10-11". I know of what I speak as I just measured it for you!
Also, go to Home Depot and buy the HD metal plugs. They are about $.25-.50 each but completely worth it.

I'd suggest 10" of space between the ceiling and the headstock if you can (nut-to-headstock tip varies somewhat with bass manufacturers).
Mine sit around 7" from the ceiling (because of a dresser below some of the basses)

Thanks for measuring! What are the metal plugs for? Pardon my ignorance.
Not to derail; but I have a hanger related question as well... Do you have any suggestions for a T-Style headstock? I hang my Squier CV 50's P... but it doesn't seem very secure in the hanger.
To secure the screws that hold the hanger better.
