Hardcore/Screamo/Post-Hardcore Bassists

Something like Necrophagist - Only ash remains is a fun bassline, but you have to have a 5 string, if not 6.
And as stated above Alex Webster from Cannibal Corpse has some amazing basslines.
But they are death metal.

I cant believe someone hasnt mentioned Protest the Hero.
I dont like them
But they have an amazing bassist.

Here's my rule of thumb for music like that: if you want certain parts to sound really heavy, working together with the guitarist and playing (largely) the same thing as them is the way to go like 90% of the time. Still, you can throw in the occasional slide or fill but don't go overboard.

For parts that aren't supposed to be hard-hitting, play what you want provided that you don't lose the groove or blatantly ignore the chords. If you stick to this rule, your band will sound aggressive and heavy and you'll still be able to apply your personal "touch".

Yeah Matt Freeman from Rancid is a killer player with a great tone. Even when he's sloppy it sounds awesome.

other post hardcore bands with sick bassists:
Sunny Day Real Estate
Bear vs Shark
mewithoutYou
The Appleseed Cast
Red Animal War
Circa Survive (although sometimes he's hard to hear)
Portugal. The Man (check out Waiter: you vultures!)
Balboa
A Perfect Kiss (broken up local band, but REALLY good bass playing)

Thursday - Understanding in a Car Crash (Of course), Cross Out The Eyes, Resuscitation of a Dead Man - ****, anything with Tim Payne is gold.
Saves the Day - Shattered, my sweet fracture - a lot of the new stuff people hate on, but I love it. I don't know if I'd call saves the day post hardcore tho.
Somebody already mentioned Circa Survive, anything off Juturna is great.
As Cities Burn - Their older stuff is legit.
Check out Braid and Far.
Funeral for a Friend's older EPs had some good bass on it.
Underoath, of course.

I've seen Portugal. The Man live about four times now over the years, beginning back in '06 or '07 while Waiter: was still their newest album. I've been able to see Zach and the rest of the band's progression, and they're all great, humbling musicians. Not only can he play some amazing technical stuff, but his parts are never too far over the top. He's a great pocket player with a great ear for tone.

Anyway, the guys on my list that have already been mentioned are just monster players, especially Lally and Cook. If you ever need inspiration, listen to a Fugazi record and try not to be inspired to pick up your bass and jam.

Joe Lally of Fugazi
Paul Hinojos of At The Drive-In
Brian Cook of These Arms Are Snakes
Nate Newton of Converge
Chad Molter of Medications
Kevin Longendyke of City of Caterpillar
Mike Petillo of A Day in Black and White
Julia Ruzicka of Million Dead
