After a foray into all tube territory and high end GK gear, I'm making my way back to the most road worthy gear that I've ever used. After I found out that my SVT would be in the shop for three months, rendering me amp-less for the entire summer festival season, I purchased a used HA 4000 and it blew me away. That is one LOUD 400 watt head. The first test was a 6 hour marathon. Two bands, alternating one hour sets, no breaks, outdoors in the heat. It didn't even start breathing hard.

I used a 3500 with a couple 4.5xl cabs for about seven years with no problems. A drummer even spilled a beer into it and after drying it out with a restroom hand dryer, it still worked.

I called Samson customer service yesterday and never once did I have to listen to a menu. A woman answered the phone and transferred me to another woman who put me hold for about two minutes. I asked to buy some rack ears for my HA 4000 and she took my shipping address and is sending them to me free of charge. FREE OF CHARGE! This is the second time that they have sent a replacement part to me for free. The last time it was a set of locking corners for my 4.5xl. I've also talked directly with Larry and he's an alright dude.

I'm going to look into the HyDrives and the LH1000.

I'm coming home, Larry!

Number me.. I'm a Hartke fan. I'm using a 3500 Bass head. Love it.. except that faulty wiring at a club made it smoke one night.. and now the direct out hums badly.. ground lift or not.. Nothing I can seem to do to fix it.. and there's no good Hartke repair places anywhere near me. So I had to buy an external DI box..
Otherwise.. LOVE my 3500!!

#113 maybe??

Guys, looking for some opinions please. I'm going to add to my 4.5XL, but I can't decide whether to go for another 4.5XL, or take a chance on one of the Hydrive HX115 cabs.

Not a bad quandry to be in. So, should I go for more tight and punchy, or add a little bit of fatness with a 15? Anyone actually using this combo of cabs?

I ran a 410 XL combined with an 215 BXL (with a Hartke 5000 amp pushing them) for years because I wanted that bottom end fatness, but it really depends on what sound you are going for. Adding another 4.5 will give more fullness and punchyness because of the quicker response, but I don't think you will get as fat a sound as if you add a 15.

I have since gone with an Ampeg SVT CL amp with an Ampeg 810e Classic bottom for my big shows. I just don't think anything compares to that sound.

I do however still use my Hartke VX3500 combo for rehearsal and for smaller club shows and really enjoy the fullness of that sound as well in smaller spaces.
