It's not a matter of which one is worse than the other as much as what tone you are looking for. IMHO, as I've had both, the aluminum cones tend to give more of a modern, bright stringy tone to the bass whereas the black paper cones give a deeper, old world 70's-80's bass tone.

I originally bought the Hartle aluminum coned speakers as I got a good deal on them at the time and thought it they would just be more versatile in dialing in different tones, but I always found myself wanting to get the old world bass tone and struggling to dial it in. I finally got tired of that and got the 810 paper cones and found that deep bass tone at face value (without having to try and dial it in).

Now you might get some that will argue my opinion on this so just take it as what I personally experienced by having both kinds of speakers.

thank you for clearing that up for me. actually, the cab i have has aluminum cones in the lower left and upper right corners. but i think its not enough to notice a difference.

anyways, i would like to join the club haha. i like the cab and have a feelin i will be sticking with it for a while. an 8x10 for $250 i couldnt beat it haha.

I got a new Hydrive 1x15 a few months ago. That thing is freakin' sweet. Nice clean tone and it can go lower than any other cab I've found so far (rated down to 20Hz). It can belt out a lot of high end from the tweeter too so, it's just all around pretty bangin'. I love Hartke.

Hey everybody,
This is an old pic of my Kustom 100 with two 10" Bugera's - it now has two 10" Hartke speakers from a 1997 4.5XL.

When I compared the Bugera 10's to the Hartke 10's here is what I found:
-The Hartke is approx 3 dB more efficient.
-The bass is similar, if anything the Bugera is stronger.
-The Hartke is brighter, the Bugera could probably be EQ’d to come close to Hartke sound.

other specs:
Bugera 10BA240B8 10 inch alum cone driver -2 inch voice coil, weight 7.8 lbs., SPL 90 to 92dB, (Factory rating 240w RMS) True RMS rating is probably around 120 to 150w RMS.
Hartke 4.5XL 10 inch alum cone driver - 1 1/2 inch voice coil, weight 10.25 lbs., SPL 93dB, 100w RMS.
