Hartke vs Eden !!!???

Hello,

For over the last weeks i'm looking around on the internet for clues helping me to find a new bass combo.
After some looking around, and reading reviews i have some possible kadidates. I'm looking for some advice. I know that the best way to make a choiche is to go and try them. My plan is to go to a big musicstore in germany (i'm from holland) were they have a lot combo's. But stil i'm interestet in your expirience.

I play blues/jazz/pop and a bit progressive rock.
Slapping is something i never do.

My eye fell on the following combo's because of there reviews and prizes:

Hartke Kickback 10"

Hartke Kickback 12"

Eden Nemesis N28s (two litle 8" speakers, that following to the reviews, realy make's a deep bass sound).

Eden Nemesis N12s (the single 12" version)

What are the big differenses.
And could someone tell me what i should ore, should not buy.

Greetz Bro1978.

I currently play thru an Eden head and love their stuff. I've played the Nemesis 2 X 8 and while I think it sounded great, I don't think it had enough oomph to play with anything but the quietest of drummers. The Kickback 12 will hold it's own with PA support in larger rooms unless your playing on the Pantera reunion tour. And it's not a bad amp. The 10 also seems to be a little weak. I haven't had a chance to play the single twelve eden.

Are you kidding me?!? Comparing Eden to Hartke is like comparing BMW to Hundai. I haven't played any of the combos listed but I think you'll find that those Hartkes, especially the 10" kickback will struggle with your average volume drummer. If money is no object go with the N12s. No contest.

Not everyone here would agree with that statement. I surely don't. Hartke makes some very nice gear - I love my Hartke 4x10XL, it's got the best punch of any cab that I have heard. With that said, I am not personally a fan of their amplification, but then again I really don't care for the Eden amplification either.

Go listen and decide for yourself.

Anyone else notice there has been alot of ______ vs Eden lately? :rollno:

Just get the Eden!

I really like my N28S, great practice amp. All plywood cab, RCA in for CD, recessed handles in cab for easy transport, and a jack for extension cab which ups the watts to 180. Hooked up to an Aguilar S210, more than enough volume to cut through a loud drummer. Oh yeah, the sound is awesome - deep lows and clarity in all ranges.

If you think you might get harke kickback, get the 15, still has plenty of mid range and can get pretty bright if you want it to, the 10's and 12's lack some bottom end I think. The eden is the all around better amp, also more expensive. Don't know what any of these cost in holland or deutchland.

The August 2006 issue of Bass Player magazine arrived last week, and the back cover features an ad with Larry Hartke's cell phone number. Grab the issue and call it. If he doesn't sell you on the Hartke, then nobody can, and buy the Eden.

As a personal recommendation, go for the Eden. Whenever I walk into the local Guitar Center or music store that sells used gear, chances are I'll see something Hartke. Never see any Eden gear...and when you ask the clerks there if they have any Epi, EA or Eden gear, they tell you they've never heard of them. If someone at Guitar Center has never heard of a brand that other pro bass players on this board have, that would be my indication to go with the Non-Guitar Center product (in this case, the Eden).:bassist:

I have a kickback 15 and it's been a good amp for what it is. Plenty for taking to practice, easy to haul around and it'll get the job done on a small blues or restaraunt gig if you need it to, doesn't have the big bass sound though, relies on punch to be heard. I had a Nemesis 410 cab that was a really nice sounding cab, deep and warm. The Nemesis was the all around better piece of equipment of the two. I haven't played a Nemesis head or combo but I would expect them to be deeper and warmer sounding than the hartke. The aluminum cones are ok if you want punchy or bright but they're not so good if you want a big, warm, deep sound. Hartke's had some reliability/quality control problems with some of their other lines of amps but the kickback's never caused me any problems like that. If the owner is putting his cell number in ads, seems like an act of desparation or insanity, might make you lean towards the nemesis. If you're going to a place that carries a lot of combo's, bring your bass and plug into anything and everything that's in your price range, let your ears be the judge.

I just bought a Nemesis NC115 and I'm really enjoying it, though I haven't gigged it yet. I'd recommend it, especially if you can get a mint condition 6 month old one used like I did (the owner was upgrading to Eden).

I'd recommend giving an Eden Nemesis a go - look used for good prices!

this is the best recommendation ;)

Hey, I have owned the Eden N12S for about a year now.
Overall I have enjoyed the combo but I think that your money would be better spent on the Nemisis not the silver series. I have played all of the silver series amps with the exception of the 2x8 one. And while they all sounded nice and clean they really don't have enough power or punch to compete with a drummer well. The volumes are voiced rather low and to really get any reasonable volume the master volume knob will be approaching '10'.

The choices you are looking are what I call BASS STAGE MONITORS and need PA support. I've used a Kickback 12 and it did the job nicely. I just sat it beside my floor wedge
lined it out to the PA and it worked fine and this is how I think it was meant to be used. You can do the same thing however, with any of the other combos. Eden has a really good reputation on this forum.
