P.S. how do you tell what kind of shaft you have?
Pull the knob off. If the pot is split, its split shaft. If its a solid shaft, its a solid shaft. Be careful though, some stock knobs unscrew or twist off. Dont pull unless youre sure.
If the knob doesnt just pull off its most likely a solid shaft, but if it just pulls off its probably split.
I still think when a pickguard matches the top of the knobs, it makes a bass better than anything else. IMO.

I don't like the standard Jazz type knobs but love the P bass ones, so....
