yeah, he got sick of arguing with internet tough guys who wear their scientific illiteracy like a badge of honor. I learned a lot from him while he was here, but I miss his insight.
Bill could get a little heavy handed with the tech stuff, and did not suffer fools willingly. You can get much the same knowledge from guys like Duke in a much more user friendly way. Just my 2 cents.
until like bill he gets so pissed off by the couch potato know it alls that he bolts too. same thing happens on all these forums. the weber amp boards for example used to be an Amazing place until the "will not listen no matter what" smartasses ran the real deal amp guys outta there. morons
In my opinion, losing Bill was one of this communities biggest failures.
God only knows how many innocent speaker cabinets he spared from getting mangled by a noob with bigger ideas than his brain could hold.

It is a shame, and a huge loss to the community. Also a big part of why I discontinued my support to the board. Eventually, the lunatics take control of the asylum, and the real value of the site is lost.

I had chosen one of his quotes for my sig shortly before he left, I decided not to change it for a while after he left. Still use it... His leaving was a huge loss to the TB community.
Bill set the table as fact vs. opinion in an art form that is founded upon fact and opinion. Many of his jedi facts have broadened in interpretation by his padawans to the point of being dogmatic and lacking in context and FAR overreaching the original intent of the comment.
Facts need the context of opinion to make anything in music relevant. I can't imagine a world without people like BFM. Nor however can I imagine a world without people like Jimi Hendrix. And although the two (likely) never met (unless I'm missing a big part of the BFM backstory) I believe that the two of them would be totally incompatible.
You could plug a sine wave directly into my brain and make speakers irrelevant tomorrow. Doesn't mean I'm going to like the sound of a perfect tone.
And I guess that's the crux of the problem. Are we having discussions for bass players here, or is this the sole domain of acoustic engineers?
