Probably the hardest thing to interpret on an internet forum. Obviously, the mod did'nt see any humor in Bill's comments in the aforementioned thread, which led Bill to leave.

Yep! I tend to overdo it with emoticons and such, just to make my intent clear...it is very easy to misinterpret text

It is a shame, and a huge loss to the community. Also a big part of why I discontinued my support to the board. Eventually, the lunatics take control of the asylum, and the real value of the site is lost.

With genuine respect for your feelings on the matter, I think that such a course of action is misguided. Your frustration is perfectly understandable under the circumstances. But to withdraw financial support (I assume you were referring to that), merely undermines & weakens the entire community. 'Cause things certainly won't get better around here - because there's fewer/less resources to go around.

Being a moderator or administrator here has got to be a tough, at times exasperating responsibility. It's unfortunate that grown adults (for the most part) should even need a virtual "cop on the beat". Alas, we do.

I'm in favor of anything that persuades those guys to keep doing what they're doing, and to keep them from getting burned out - including keeping the dollars flowing, and keeping morale high. Because if they were ever to withdraw entirely from being amongst us, then anarchy truly would become the order of the day here on TalkBass (*shudder*).

False dichotomy? Not really. Acoustic engineers are an overlapping set with bass players. However, there have been statements made by engineers that lead me to believe they have a more rigid set of goals than the bass player set.

My point is that the discussions haven't been as valuable as they could have been.

A lot of acoustic principles were originally established in conjunction with audibility testing. Nowadays we have fierce debates over topics where audibility is not a priority and is in no way quantified. In some ways I think it is important to be a skeptic and ask for quantification to make sure we aren't splitting hairs. When a bass player of the non-engineering type invests in equipment he deserves to know the degree of relevance or applicability of the advice he is receiving.
