“Fraud” is a setting the bar pretty high and quite frankly a bit dramatic.
Fraud implies intent.
The best anyone can realistically hope for is that they correct the specifications in the future. Hopefully they do.
To get up in arms over a spec sheet typo on a cheapo student level bass ? Doesn’t seem like the end of the world .

I agree, worst things in the World presently… but I bought this one assuming that it had humbuckers, a bit annoyed. And worst (hope I’m right), the hum doesn’t look to be completely cancelled when the two pickups are selected like on a Jazz…
**BTW, I missed the fact that Gretsch is owned by FMIC since a long time. As a sidenote, I’m really fond of my little Gretsch Catalina drum kit for what it’s worth
I don't disagree. It's more to the point of, was there a point where it was decided that they would use a different and less expensive pick up with the intent to increase profits while intentionally marketing it as having a (presumably) more expensive pick up.
So, misrepresenting it for monetary gain could be considered fraud I suppose. But again, it's all about the intent. And more importantly, being able to prove it.
Just for clarification, I don't have any doubts about the findings of the esteemed lobster. Just sharing what I have learned after too many years of working with insurance and financial products.

So you think it was a typo???? Why do you think it matters if it’s “student level”. Beginners driving themselves crazy trying to figure out why their humbuckers Are noisy will definitely make me reconsider more expensive instruments or doing any business with this company. It’s fine that you don’t care but to dismiss it just because there are bigger problems in the world doesn’t seem right to me. Yeah we’re not talking about war because this is a bass message board. A super popular bass is not what it claims to be. Now of course you’re right that we don’t know who’s fault it is but it’s somebody’s fault and it’s not the students who aren’t getting what they pay for…
Show me the intent to defraud the consumer and I’ll feel more strongly about it.
Hopefully they will update the specs.
Somehow that’s the worst part. The Hum won’t cancel because they’re both bridge pick ups. Someone would’ve figured this out along time ago if they weren’t both bridge pick ups.
Well, the fact that it’s Ben 10 years leads me to think somebody was doing it on purpose. However, I am more than happy to hear an explanation and if it’s an honest mistake i’ll be happy to give them my business in the future.
You seem hung up on the word "defraud". For whatever reason or intent, the product is not as advertised. Some purchasers are disappointed, and it will be worthwhile to get a response from FMIC.

Marketing single coil pickups as "dual-coil humbucking pickups" is not some minor thing that you can just shrug off and ignore. It's one of the biggest features of a bass, with arguably the most impact on the tone. And it's pretty well-defined too, it's not like some marketing speak that can be left to different interpretation.
It's not like some honest mistake, either. Who would have thought that the product specs happen to present the pickups as something that are more expensive to manufacture? That's quite a convenient mistake if you ask me. Calling it fraud might be a stretch, but calling it a "spec sheet typo" is pretty disingenuous imo.

Agreed. Only a bassist who plays lead guitar and sings all at the same should own one of these. Or a student.
