This is a great point. At a minimum, you should be able to get the Jazz Bass type of noise cancelling when running both pickups at equal levels. It's bad enough to ship singles when they advertise HB, but even worse to wire the singles incorrectly so they don't cancel hum.

Honestly, there are plenty of basses with single coils, and more than a few that don't humbuck in the middle position (lookin' at you Rickenbacker), so it's not like it's a deal-breaker when it comes to playability. I also think most people wouldn't care about it either, the issue is and has always been how they are described and advertised. They should just remove the humbucking descriptive content and get on with selling them. 
I find it a bit amusing that you're asking the people to calm down yet you're the one who created the clickbait title and thumbnail. What else did you expect?
And I don't to want to make this sound wrong. I fully believe that this is a single coil and it looks bad on Gretsch and they need to make it right to the owners. But when you call it a fraud you assume that Gretsch did this intentionally which neither your video nor this thread proved. This could be considered slander.
He’s coming from the standpoint of not having this thread shut down because of too many flamers. Wants to keep it focused on data based on everyone’s experiences and magnetic paper tests. Very reasonable and straightforward request.
Confirmed single coil pattern with magnetic paper on mine this morning. Mine was purchased in early 2020, just before we shut everything down. So there's unlikely to be any pandemic-related supply chain issues here.

That said, "will this 'hold up'?" isn't a question that can be answered. Depends on the jurisdiction; depends on the claim being asserted; depends on the facts of how it is being applied; depends on the evidence of what happened and what the company knew when.
