Has Gretsch been lying to us for over a decade?

Sound logic! I actually just got off the phone with a 'product rep' (I just called the number on the Gretsch contact page). They took down my info and said someone would reach out. I also sent an email this past Sunday but haven't gotten a response. I'm not hopeful that I'll get anything meaningful.

If you look at the Dimarzio DP122/123 you can see a similar arrangement with a piece of mild steel between the magnets, tapped for the hex head adjustable screws you see on top in normal use. The bolts effectively are magnets.

Lol that's actually a reflection of my 'knob box'. A Jam pedals box full of abandoned knobs lol.

Yes, unfortunately you're probably correct in the assumption regarding lack of response.Things have changed since Gretch was located in Westerly in my home state of R.I.

Right, I think in this case the N/S direction points up towards the strings, which I think is the normal approach. When I first saw the picture of the pickup I thought we were seeing magnet plates face-to-face, which would have put the field in a direction parallel to the strings. But from the back view we can see the magnets connected to the plates, and surely the field is pointing "up" toward the strings in the typical directly.

When exactly was Gretsch in Westerly? I know Guild was there from the mid '60s until 2001. Wikipedia indicates that Gretsch was in Brooklyn, NY until 1969, then moved to DeQueen, AR. But never in Rhode Island.

Or you can derail the derailed derail and go back to talking about these pickups.... but where's the fun in that?

That's a disappointment. I had these on my list to try, because I love Gretsch minibuckers in the G5260 baritone and also wanted something like that on bass.
