No, the internet hasn't gone too far.
I've noticed CFL bulbs have a tendency to break at the base when you're screwing them in; releasing a little cloud of mercury dust right into your face.

The internet can't 'go too far' because it isn't a person or sentient being that can 'go too far'. it's jest a bunnch of computerrzz!

I think you forget that each computer requires an operator. So in essence the internet IS a network of biological organisms.
I think of it more like a really large society, but with less laws, and fewer ways of really enforcing the laws that exist.
Hence, you get sites like 4chan and a tonne of porn sites. The upside is that you still get sites like talkbass.
