Has the Internet gone to far?

I think you forget that each computer requires an operator. So in essence the internet IS a network of biological organisms.

I think of it more like a really large society, but with less laws, and fewer ways of really enforcing the laws that exist.

Hence, you get sites like 4chan and a tonne of porn sites. The upside is that you still get sites like talkbass.

I'm actually kind of glad a site like 4chan still exists. Because it makes the internet seem more "wild west" like.

I still prefer Talkbass, though. Nice avatar, btw.

Semantics my friend, no need to split technical hairs. It always is about the 'people' behind the offending technology, be it computers, or guns, or take your pick.

A mild take at cheap humor, it's not intended to be serious. Your view is one of many, and as valid as any and I agree with it.....teh iNterRnetz..its..its people....da** you...itz PeEeePullll!!!

Having an online "red light district" on sites like CL makes a lot of sense, for the same reason TB has off-topic: it keeps stuff that people don't want to see away from people who don't want to see it.

Open a local newspaper classifieds and mixed in with the legit ads you find all sort of ads that really shouldn't be there. If you're looking for music tution you probably don't want to know about Natasha's "special" tutition. Personally I just find it funny, but there are people who would get upset, and I understand why they don't want to see it (of have their kids see it).

Put the dodgy stuff in a clearly marked "click here to get some" section. If you don't want to know, then don't go there. If you're worried about other people seeing it, then block that section on your computers - easily done, and problem solved.
