Have Araya returned to passive pickups?

I don't think anyone is discussing Araya's ability in this thread. I think everyone who has posted in this thread is or was a SLAYER fan and we'd all be happy if he could be heard on the songs.

Oh yeah, you're right. I remember hearing a standard-tune version of Aggressive Perfector. Must've been on Show No Mercy. I don't think they recorded anything else in standard tuning.
I know, mjust makin a point, hes been bashed on TB in the past.

It was actually really audible when I saw them at the Fox Theater in Oakland several months ago.
I saw them in 06 on the Unholy Alliance tour, and then actually won tickets to see them with Marilyn Manson in I guess 07, seems like the shows were further apart by my own recollection but the facts don't lie. Now that I think about it it's not that I couldn't hear him just that his lines don't especially stand out per se when you consider their style.

Not sure. Video was posted in 2013, but it's likely from even earlier. Like 07 or something. And I agree, the bass sounds pretty cool in that video. I wish Araya's bass was that loud on the albums.
I know that he uses Marshall heads and cabs now, but this video, anyone know what his amp setup is, I cant get that bass tone out of my head, I mean holy $hit that sounds mean, that ESP is summoning the devil.

Given it's before 2009, probably Ampeg SVT4 Pros. He also runs a DBX compressor in front.
Well Damn! I guess I need a Tom Araya ESP and an Ampeg SVT......cabinets Ampeg too? I have always loved Slayer, and have a healthy respect for Tom, but I have never heard a tone like that from him, good stuff. Im a Peavey guy but I think Im gonna check out one of those SVTs....does anyone know if he uses 10s or 15s?
