Have You Ever Forgotten Your Bass?

this happened about 10 years ago: I was set to share bass playing duties with my friend for a blues band. The story was that the band was hired for 4 sets, and I had to work till 5 and my buddy was going to play 2 sets and then go to his night gig and I was going to finish the night.
Well it was a hot day so i brought my bass into work where it would be "safe".
Next thing I am driving to the gig and thinking that the gig is at a state beach and would I have to pay for parking since there is already a band there? Of course not, I'm carrying my bass and amp well whooops I guess I never carried my bass out of work.
I diverted my trip home to pick up another bass. I was'nt very late and even though I had run about 3/4 of a mile with my gear everything turned out fine.
Oh I did'nt mention, this was my first paid gig!
Mr. Belt & Suspenders from now on!

I was playing a gig with the jazz band the collegebi attend. When I went to take out my electric ( a hofner violin bass) I noticed someone had reset the combination lock and I didn't know the combo. I had to snap through the rivets with a fork.

Turns out my roommate wanted to play a joke and reset the combo. Now he's buying a new case.

Years ago after playing at church, I came out into the parking lot and sat my P-bass in its hard shell down on edge next to the car, got in and drove away. An hour later I was horrified, realized what I had done, and drove back. There it was, all by itself in the middle of the parking lot. I was amazed. Maybe people are loathe to take something from a church parking lot, or maybe it was God protecting the feeble-minded.

Finally, a thread dedicated to me! lol. When I was in college for music I was so far gone healthwise, I plain forgot my 70's P bass in Virginia, on my way to Philly. Borrowed a crap bass until my dad surprised me with a visit at school.

I never forgot my bass, but I did once leave a B-15 at a club where we played. Funny thing is I didn't miss it until we return to the same club the next weekend. We finished loading in and I noticed that I had no amp. The lady that ran the club heard the band talking about the missing amp and mentioned that she had found an amp sitting outside the back door earlier in the week. She said that she put it in the back storage room for safe keeping. I went back to look, and sure enough, there was my B-15.

I have never forgot my bass, but I have had dreams where I was getting ready to step up on stage and realized I forgot it and was running around frantically trying to borrow one. I also had a dream where no matter what I tried, my bass would not tune up.

Hmmm, I sometimes wonder what all this could mean, lol.

Yep. I live in Minnesota. I leave my bass in my backseat during the summer on Saturday night because I usually have a Sunday morning gig. If the temp is moderate it's not an issue. Unfortunately, if you live in Minnesota you know this, the weather can turn cold on a dime sometime in October - November. Sooo, it was a Saturday night, and I took my bass inside my house because it was too cold for it to stay in my car. Sunday morning came and off I went and I was more than halfway to the church gig before I realized I didn't have my bass with me. This church is on the other side of town, so I had to make a decision whether I should turn back and get it and be incredibly late, or embarrass myself by saying I left my bass at home, knowing the guitar player had a bass at his house that was about 10 minutes away from the church. I opted to embarrass myself and use his bass, and of course he preached that day and mentioned it to the whole congregation in reference to his sermon.

for a few minutes once, i thought i might have forgotten my bass somewhere. i was in a band for a few months about 4 years ago.. one which had alot of drinking involved. one practice the singer/guitarist ended up giving me one too many and i basically became stupor cause i blacked in and out the rest of the night. i had some friends pick me up but i didn't remember leaving or anything. but reguardless of my drunkeness they still wanted to hang out. next thing i knew i was at this girl's house with them for a bit. blacked, then we were at a taco bell. blacked next thing i knew it was morning and i wake in my room. just remembering those two parts of the night. i realised my bass wasn't in my room as usual after a bit. i really hoped i didn't leave it at my drummer's place/someone's car/somewhere. but i came down and found it on a table in the garage.. musta been too drunk lazy to bring it up with me.

i still wondered what i did with it though, cause it was before i had a hardshell for it and i think it turned out that we had to put it in my friends trunk which i never would have done sober. suprisingly nothing was damaged on it or anything..

I've never forgotten to bring a bass to a gig, but did leave a bass out in the open back of my pickup after a gig one night. Living in the 'burbs of Seattle at the time. Fortunately it was still there in the morning - unfortunately it had rained ruining the Gibson hardshell case. Bass came through the experience unharmed.

A couple of years ago got a call from a local club. A bass player had forgotten his bass and could I loan him one for the evening. No big - brought down a P and picked it up the next day. Normally I wouldn't leave a bass in a club overnight, but this is a very small town and I know the club owners very well - it spent the night locked away in the office.

Never actually forgotten it, but I've come distressingly close. Yesterday I forgot all my sheet music (left it in the wrong bass case, d'oh!) but was able to copy a half-assed chord chart from the keyboard player's music on the one song I hadn't memorised and use that to jog my memory.

When I was moving my bass rig into my band's studio, I took it via public transport from he other side of London. Almost left my pedalboard on a train, but some upstanding gentleman was kind enough to run after me with it and save me throwing another few hundred quid at Boss.

After a gig (running on very little sleep) I very nearly left my bass on another train. I realised this as I met the ticket barrier, then sprinted back to the platform cursing under my breath. Fortunately that station was the end of the line. Got bass, got home, fell into a well-deserved sleep.
