Have you ever stumbled upon a gem?

Edited to add: Similar, not the same. Thanks B-Mac
I will say I see no difference in the quality of build or sound. Good buy in any case.

Here's one. I came across this as a B-stock item on the Thomann site in Germany. You will note it is the same bass as the Eastwood Classic IV, which I have owned and let go for something I wanted worse..

Anyway, I got it for half of the price of the Eastwood, and it shipped from Germany for less than half most shipping would cost me most times in the States. It has a couple of minor electronic issues which are livable for the moment, and an easy fix when I get inspired.
I know bass brothers across the pond say we players in the States get all the goodies, but I'm not so sure any more !

Not the Eastwood Classic IV
Horns are different It is similar though

Well I'll be a monkey's uncle. I sit corrected. I'm going to edit for correction and do an A/B pic. Thanks !
Looks like the tailpiece is the same and pups and pup placement are same or very similar. Might want to compare horns to a Guild Starfire maybe?

Whatever it is it looks great and I wouldn’t mind knowing what it is. Might to try the hollowbody bass club here on TB?

Neck and inlays similar. Wonder if Eastwood is just making a different version of the Classic IV or perhaps it is a Chowny?

Agree on all of the above.

https://www.thomannmusic.com/harley_benton_hb_60_wb.htm. Here's the Harley Benton.
They seem to currently have B- stock.

Hmm Chowny seems to have sold three different hollows, two quite similar. Main difference seems to be pots and knobs. Hadn't thought of them. I'm going to checkout hollowbody bass club. Thanks !

I started playing in 1978. Between then and the mid 80s, I almost hate to tell you how many pre-CBS Fender Ps and Js I picked up for well under a grand. Can't actually remember paying more than $700 and the cheapest was a '64 Jazz I got for $300 (it was listed at $350) which had been very badly refinished in what looked like bright yellow house paint applied with a huge brush.

It was my first refinish job.

All those gems are long gone now, but the last real steal I got was an old MIJ Tokai P clone at a pawn shop in Tulsa for $75 back around '86.

It paid for itself through gigs that same week and was my #1 for many years. Hundreds of gigs with that Tokai and an old Peavey TNT amp...

Stumbled on many gems. These two being some of my favourites. The cort cost me $60, the JB Player, $120.

Nice! I am a huge fan of MIC and MIK knockoffs. Some are really great, or can be with minor adjustments or mods.

I just scored an Arbor brand MM Stingray copy for $65 this very week. For what I paid it sounds and plays quite nicely. It's passive and only like a Stingray aesthetically, but I'll be rocking it.

Late last year I picked up a ca 2000 Cort Artisan B4FL for under $400 here on TalkBass. I knew about Cort basses since my Fender Jazz 24 was made at the Cort factory, but had never tried an actual Cort bass. It had some electronics issues to be sorted (some dummy tried -- and failed -- to change the preamp from 9V to 18V) which my guitar tech fixed as well as adding a preamp bypass switch. Now it sounds as good as it plays. :D

I actually much prefer the looks of the Harley Benton, though I am a huge Gretsch fan, and really dig Eastwood's offbeat repros.

I don't think I've ever played a Cort bass. Might have to change that soon. Your bass is beautiful. Bet it sounds good too!

I'm a lefty so gems are few and far between. Through a rare alignment of the planets I've found 2 gems in the last 2 months.
1992 Fender MIJ '62 Reissue Jazz Bass - $500. It's been well cared for, plays like a dream and sounds awesome.
2005 OLP MM2 (Stingray clone) - $150. It plays great. I'll be upgrading the pickup to a Duncan SMB-4D and replacing all pots & wiring.
