Normally I don't name objects. That said, my upright was called Mitch before he had a terrible accident that resulted in the entire neck block ripping away from the body and taking some of the sides with it. My '83 VW pickup is called Coco. I haven't named my current basses, but I feel like my Squier VM Bass VI is calling out to be named.

I have to say I don't really get the naming of basses. And that's not to say I don't have an emotional connection to my instruments, because I do. It just never occurred to me they needed names.

Naturally, I do not think that an inanimate object has any soul in the strictest sense, but they certainly have character. I think naming is just another means of identifying and somehow connecting with those unique qualities. My motorcycles have all had names.

For me, there's something about a hollowbody that seems to want a Southern two-name appellation; therefore, my Ibanez Artcore is Ellie Mae.

My two precision bass copies are Riot (black/maple) and DD (white/rosewood). My t-bird goth edition is purdy. Ibanez GaxB is Lowdown cause of massive low end. and finally my Rickenbacker copy is Positive Pressure. it's cause i wanted to give myself some form of pressure to be optimistic and have a positive view in life.

Lynn, Mary Jane, and Vanessa. The first and last are named after my wife (her nickname and her middle name, respectively), and I chose MJ because, um, the bass is red and so I named her after Spider-Man's red-headed girlfriend. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
