Having BassCliff Gig Report Withdrawals

Hi!

Really!?!? You had one of those Fender "pyramid" 4x12 cabs? Cool, sort of. When I was looking at it in the store I thought it was the most amazing thing I'd ever seen. Once I started gigging with it, not so much. Who ever thought pointing speakers at each other was a good thing? :p

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff
I never knew it was made by Fender as it didn't have a grill on it. Didn't keep it long I moved on to the classic GK 800 and matching cabs that I wish I had now!

Hi,

Hey err'body!

I've just sent out the invitation email for our weekly Zoom TB GTG to all the usual suspects. If anyone else would like to join in I'd love to see you. Thanks to everyone who participates. It's fun for me to just hang out with other bass players, talk shop, swap stories, share pictures, and generally goof off for an hour or so. You guys are a good hang. :)

And of course, @Holdsg. ;)

Hi Scott,

maybe they thought it would combine into one great beam of low frequency, then again they could have just been smokin somethin, might explain that design;):woot:

I think it would've been better with all four speakers facing straight out front. There was room. Perhaps this was before they really knew how to tune cabinets for specific speaker arrangements. Or some designer just thought it looked pretty. :p

So they were going for the "Darth Star" laser effect of "4 into 1?"

I emailed Cliff that I won't be able to join the meeting tonight. We had practices over the last couple weeks and just last Friday found out that the gig that was originally on for this Sunday is back on again. So the first gig in over 2 months, time to polish off some of the rust.

We are travelling north to open up our summer place tonight, and of course due to the gig we will be returning earlier than planned but that's ok too. The whole town up there is basically closed and there's lots of griping about people with summer homes coming to their town and infecting everyone. So we'll avoid all that and just stay at our place on Lake Superior, that's all we need anyway.

Have a good meeting, saying "hi" to everyone in advance, carry on!

Our grizzled ensemble for Sunday, at practice Tues night. We threw this trio together after a few jams in the past. The guitarist for our normal 3 pc is going back to his roots on the drums. Due to all the shutdowns we didn't get enough practice in with our new member to play with her yet, but work continues on that as well.

Post a photo or two of your lake place if you dont mind, scenic or otherwise.

My one band is getting together saturday for the first time in months even though our next booking is three months away at this point, unless something changes. Glad to here some our getting back out there now, maybe we should look at Wisconsin for a gig, I think Minnesota is going to be pretty slow for awhile.

Hi,

We should start posting practice videos. That is probably as far as most of us will get to the stage for awhile.

We've got a practice next week on Tuesday, a live stream show on Friday. But then we'll have a real live private party to play for on the 13th of June. Then we've got a festival scheduled on June 20 followed by the 4th of July weekend at Gilley's in Las Vegas. We're slowly getting back to normal. Yay band!

We had a gig last Sunday that went as well as could be expected when it was as thrown together as it was. It took a few songs to really get the comfort level up but things went well after that.

The good news is we are finally able to practice with our 3 pc group again and they've been going very well.

The trio got booked again for Sat 6/20 and Hijinx will make our debut in the new format on Sun 6/21. Life is finally returning, yes!

That's great to hear. Congrats on being the first to have a gig since the shutdown. Yay band! :D

In the meantime, the rest of us are still getting together on the Zoom and talking about dive bars, basses, lousy sheet music, and new paint jobs. ;)

Thanks to everybody who stopped by. Sorry we couldn't get @1bassplayinfool connected up properly. Maybe next time. But @Holdsg, @Tony In Philly, @/\/\3phist0, @McG, @dbase, and @ak56 hung out for a while. Great to see you guys! I think @twinjet was going to join us, don't know what happened. Maybe next time, ok Miguel?

Sorry I couldn’t make it last night.

One of the ships that is currently getting worked on in Hawaii came up “hot” for a substance than shouldn’t have been there, so because it was at my work previously (a few years ago) there was a question regarding if we used the wrong material - which is why the long conversation.

On the bright side, it will help fund my move (wife and I will be buying a house in July/August) lol.

Great to hear you're performing again, Chris. It still sounds like it's going to be some time before they loosen things up here in California. We still have a brewery gig on the books for July 11, but chances are slim that it will go on as scheduled. Fingers crossed, though.

I appreciate the update, Cliff. I missed you guys, but took the night off with my lovely wife after a long day. I'm looking forward to the next call on June 4th!

Congrats, and good luck with that, Nate! Please keep us all posted.

We did a virtual gig last week that was honored from the BC days (Before Covid). Strange playing to a camera and not a crowd. However we have our first real show in 2 weeks. Instead of doing the usual 2 sets it's 2 shows because of reduced capacity due to the "new rules". A bit more work for us but it's a start!
