Having trouble getting a good drive tone ampless

If you're conducting an ampless rig but want that tube sound, check out either the sansamp bass driver(if you desire an svt type sound) or one of the darkglass ultra preamps(if you want more of a modern or vintage overdriven sound). any of these preamps should give that tube sound you're looking for.
In theory so should the VTDI, but I might give a bass driver a try just for the heck of it. See if it responds to my drives any differently than the VTDI does.

But this is ultimately why I think I will be okay once I get my OCSD. See the 4:38 mark.

And the fact that this guy doesn't use an amp in the demo is encouraging. That's partly why it's been hard for me to diagnose issues and find things to compare my sound to because a lot of times people who are demoing preamps and pedals, and even the Sansamp stuff, are still running it into amps and miking the cabs (and understandably so). But different amps and cabinets will introduce different variables into the tone, and it's not an accurate representation of what it will sound like in my ampless setup. But this video (and others) gives me great hope that my Darkglass VMT is going to sound awesome.

@jacoby75 I too am waiting patiently for my ordered OCSD. Unfortunately I probably won't see it until the middle of April, and my last church rehearsal/services is tonight/this Sunday, and after that my work shift changes and I won't be able to play @ church for at least 3 months :( ...

Still looking forward to this little jewel ...

That sucks. But look at the bright side. You’ll have an OCSD to play with for three months! Woo hoo! And by the time it makes its public debut, you’ll have it dialed in beautifully.

Hey guys!
I just finished building and testing the units, so they will be traveling to you very soon!!
Don't worry about your direct sound with the Omni, you made the right choice. I'm 100% sure it will blow your mind and make your sound engineer happy. It is much more than a cabsim. You can design an IR cabsim that mimics a cab to perfection, but that does not mean it will sound good through a PA. I designed it to sound good!!

I seriously . . . can . . . . not . . . . wait! I already know this is going to be the most important gear purchase I have made in a long time. Bring it on!
