Hawaii Bassists?

From Maui, born in Hilo... Currently living in Vegas.. Which is pretty much Hawaii hah

Glad to see Christian found this thread. I was going to point him out to everyone.

He's a wicked-bad-rear-end (sorry, keeping with the no profanity rule) talented bassist and my friend, and he's from Hilo as he pointed out.

Who cares that he lives in Vegas currently? You can take the man from the islands, but you can't take the islands out of the man.

Right Chris?

Ooklah is my all time fav reggae band.. And I don't even usually like reggae that slow haha. I saw them at UH one night. Such a tight band. Hell fire is such a good song.

My families mostly in to the classical Hawaiian scene.. Cousins went to Kam school.. Uncle was a judge at the song contest one year.

Me on the other hand.. I play metal haha. My sig has a sample of mu bands newest album.

Played mostly a jazz bass and a Modulus flea bass both 4st in Hawaii. My band now I play 4 and 5 string Spectors. Definitely using low end... 4 string is tuned Low A D G C hah

I played music with my good friend Kanoa from Gomega/Ho'omau a few times. Kanoa plays bass now.. Think he still has my jazz lol. He's gotta be one of the best musicians there.

Sweet info! Ill check out your band info when I get home (on mobile right now) and right on about Ho'omau!

Thing is im into metal myself and I look nowhere near what would be considered a metal fan. I actullay wrote/sung a few metal songs for a low budget movie out here. I just started playing bass for my church about 4 months ago (using their very heavy Fender P)..so yes I suck lol but I enjoy it. Just bought an used ArborAB400 from my friend who plays in a local band called Tribal Redemption. Think he overcharged me for it (150 with case and new strap) but he's throwing in lessons, so I guess thats okay lol

Yes. I have since learned the proper spelling. And pronunciation. :) Was right there in Poipu. Stayed at Kiahuna Plantation. Got married on Shipwreck Beach. You live in an incredibly beautiful neighborhood. Ya'll just drive too dang slow. :)

Congrats to ya Joe on the wedding! I actullay work down the road from there at the Hyatt..shoulda stayed there, would have hooked you up ;) next time :) Heh and trust me..you weren't driving behind me if you think we drive slow lol Your right though, it's one of the drawbacks of this island (one lane highway) if one guy decides he wants to cruise and look at cows,he jams up everyone else lol

also welcome Project43!

Small world, I'm selling Kanoa my five string Musicman next week, he's an awesome all-around musician.

Yo Hawaii Dudes-
A friend just told me about this- If you guys drool over gear on eBay(like me) but seller won't ship to Hawaii- the dreaded shipping conus only, lower 48 only.
Here's a solution------> Invalid Link Removed
They receive package from UPS/FedEx, re-label the box and ship USPS priority or parcel post to Hawaii.

pretty cool!!

Laters-
Pat

+1

AWESOME info...Thank you!

BTW are we doing numbers? I think i'd be cool. I just put #9 since I'm the 9th one from Hawaii who posted in here...

To the Oahu people, what's the best Music/Guitar store there? I remember one being at Pearlridge uptown, but when I went back, it wasn't there...:crying:

Hey, totally off topic, but any of you guys have any experience with centipedes? I stumbled across a forum discussing them when doing research on some insects that followed us home in our luggage, and got the crap scared outta me (the luggage bugs weren't centipedes). Any first hand experience with them?

And if they are as they say they are, why did greg brady have a taranula crawling on his chest, and not a centipede!

Yes, the centipedes are friggin huge, and they have some vicious fangs! Hawaii was also my first encounter with a scorpion, but after a while I quit fearing those and just felt sorry for them. Centipedes eat them for breakfast. Centipedes can kill a tarantula with one fell swoop. They are fast! I chased one away from the house under a fence and three more came back after me. Pesticides don't work on them... you have to chop them up. Do NOT like, though they're good for gardens.

same expirences here with Centipedes....been bitten twice by baby ones and it stung for days..have seen ones a foot long before...no joke...usually they hang around places with lots of vegetation (banana trees are a favorite plant) usually find them in houses during/after rainstorms and they always come in two's like Sith Lords...lol So chances are if you kill one (blow to the head with hammer and be careful as can still be stung by tail after it dies) theres another one lurking about...ye I aint a fan of em lol

Another creature common to the islands are Cane Spiders (which often get mistaken for Tarantulas) they can grow quite large and are scary to look at but relatively harmless...I got a reputation as a "Da cane spida hunta" on account I once killed 5 9 inchers in one night..felt like that Starship Troopers movie lol

Joe, out of curisoty, what were the luggage bugs? We dont have bedbugs in Kauai (not many anywhoo) so aside from roaches and ants, there's "stinkbugs", little fat green ones that if you smash them emit a powerful odor akin to a mini skunk...

oh and welcome Kapaauguy!
