Hawaii Bassists?

Hey Guys, Need a little help here..I'm selling a bass on the bay and a guy asked me if I could ship to Hawaii. Now I have never shipped there and wondering if any of you guys have had a bass shipped from the conus and if so how much would it be ? I'll be shipping from Miami Fl.....Thanks

Never personally had a bass shipped from the mainland, but it could be quite pricey. Depending on the size of the outer box you pack the bass into, it may be too large for USPS Priority Mail (in fact, I'll say it probably is too large for PM), which leaves you with Parcel Post, which will take approx. 4-6 weeks avg transit time. (Could be less if the timing is right) Also, you'll probably be dinged for a 70 lb. rate due to size, even if what you're shipping only weighs, oh say, 20 lbs.

UPS will be quite pricey, even with ground service. I believe you'll be charged with an Over Size 2 weight, which IIRC is anywhere between 50-70 lbs. depending on the l x w x h of the outer box.

Probably best to go to the respective websites for shipping prices. When you measure the box, always round up (ex: if the length is 47 1/8", it becomes 48")

Hope that helps.

P.S. My avatar photo was taken at the Blue Dragon.

Anyone been to Dan's guitars on Oahu? They had a good selection of Music Man basses the last time I stopped in. It was a few years ago though. I wanted to try an Ampeg SVT CL but they didn't have one out front and were too busy to dig it out and set it up. I did get to try out a Stingray though.

Dans is hands down my favorite spot. I met him 3yrs ago and when I wanted to get a lakland Jo he ordred two of them just so I could pick which one was better of the 2. Really awesome guy too

I asked dan about some budget 15" cabs he had in the store. then as i was waiting to try out a cab. some kid accidentally blew a speaker in a brand new ampeg 15" cab right in front of me. dan turned to me and said... you wanna buy a cab for 20 bucks? i took the cab home, but still deciding what to put in it 6 month later.

Hey if any of you guys know Tim Lee or Vance Keever tell them Walt Finnerty says hello and that I'm on TB and FB

I'm still here on Oahu, playing gigs on the North Shore regularly.
I was there a couple of years ago for some gigs. We had some downtime so the band and I would go to Surfer the Bar @ Turtle Bay and do the open mic there, good times :)

We where there this year but we didn't come out. Instead, I hung with the grandson and watched him surf :)
