Hawaii Bassists?

I was there a couple of years ago for some gigs. We had some downtime so the band and I would go to Surfer the Bar @ Turtle Bay and do the open mic there, good times :)

We where there this year but we didn't come out. Instead, I hung with the grandson and watched him surf :)

He's 11, first time, no da kine lessons too!

Since last August I've been in the house band for open mic at Surfer, the Bar! I also play once a month at Breakers in Haleiwa and some other places.

Yeah, when we were there, I don't remember a house band. More like a host running things but, we were high on
Heineken's and pakalolo so...

I don't know when they started having a house band, but when I started in Sept. I replaced a previous bassist. And it has been a great and challenging experience. I have to be ready to play any style, and songs I don't know. Keeps me on my toes.

Glad to see Christian found this thread. I was going to point him out to everyone.

He's a wicked-bad-rear-end (sorry, keeping with the no profanity rule) talented bassist and my friend, and he's from Hilo as he pointed out.

Who cares that he lives in Vegas currently? You can take the man from the islands, but you can't take the islands out of the man.

Right Chris?

Grew up in Hilo in the 50's and 60's. Northern Cali transplant now ... Hope that qualifies :)

I've been in that situation quite a bit since I've been here. Sometimes it's flattering to keep being invited back; other times it's really stressful to have the responsibility of gluing everyone together when you don't know the material yourself.

It can be stressful, but that is part of the challenge. It's been almost a year and they haven't fired me yet so I must be doing ok. :)

That can lead to this, is my hope for you...
