headphone practice?

I've been using the Rolls PM351. It is small, runs off a one spot, works great, sounds amazing, and is $80. It can also be used as a hardwired IEM solution (it's intended purpose). Prior to this I used a small Mackie mixer 402VLZ3, and then a 3 Leaf Enabler. I have my eyes on the the new OmniCabSim Deluxe and will probably pull the trigger once I can afford to since I'm looking for an affordable cab sim anyways.

I am using a rechargeable amp plug by Nady works great

upload_2016-7-19_12-3-29.png
cost between 18.00-25.00 us

I use my Aguilar tone hammer pedal and run the output to my computer, where I use the EQ in the audio manager to remove the bass in the computer's sound. The EQ doesn't affect the line in, so I can plug my headphones into the computer and play along with youtube or mp3s or anything else, and I can adjust the settings on the tone hammer like I would on any amp.

I use a Mackie 402 mixer. I can connect almost anything to that, and practice with whatever. The mic inputs have a switch for an instrument input - no processing, you hear what your bass (or the output of your pedalboard) sounds like straight up.

Another vote for Amplug. I use mine every day (2 years no issues) in the morning before the family gets up. Get the model for bass guitar, the variable speed drum machine is a great feature for warm up, Hannon drills etc.

Just treat it well, its plastic after all. Use rechargeable batteries.

THIS. Nothing has the integrity of a Cafe Walter HA-1A

The cafe Walter is certainly a top notch unit, but you cant walk around with it, never mind actually getting one (unless you sell yours...)

As of January 2015, the HA-1A is no longer being manufactured. I’m hard at work designing the HA-2, which will be similar in function but somewhat smaller in size and will use an internal rechargeable battery.

I use the Link Removed. $25, plus incidentals, and hard to beat. No EQ, so you hear the bass for what it is (a plus for me but YMMV). It's mono, so I send split stereo from a sound source (ipod, phone, computer, etc.) into two separate channels (also nice), and then have an adapter coming out so the mono is present in both sides of my headphones. Travels well, tho not battery powered.

I use a Aguilar Tone Hammer into a small Alesis mixer that always has my computer patched into it. I can play along with any mp3 files that people send me, or jam with Youtube videos. The Alesis has a headphone out and supplies the Tone Hammer with phantom power down the XLR cable.

The output of the mixer goes to powered speakers that I can have off or on.

Practicing with headphones is a great solution. Use what is best for you. In my opinion nothing beats practicing through an amp. When using an amp isn't a useful option headphone are very great.

When I use headphones I mostly just use a Zoom B3 or my Pedal board with a compressor and dirt pedal along with an MP3 media player all going into an inexpensive USB mixer.

Another Phil Jones Bighead user here... Great on its own with headphones or as an external sound card for my MacBook. And you can use it as a pre-amp for gigs. Not cheap but I use mine all the time.
