Closed cups. Any headphones with closed cups will make a head sweat on hot days.
Sony MDR 7506 are really nice, about as close to the old MDR v6 as you can get. They're really nice for bass.
Plenty of options out there to choose from.

Thanks! I have a set of GK Ultraphones that I bought for FOH. Effective, but uncomfortable after awhile.
That is a good point and make sense Andy! At my age My hearing is pretty shot from years of abuse!
I have $5000. hearing aids which I never wear...maybe I should wear them....what did you say, LOL...
Good info, I always thought I had to un plug the cab...will try it again...but that kind of defeats the purpose for wearing headphones if you are trying to be quiet...Good stuff, Thank You!
I use AKG K240 daily. Use them for mixing and editing and I use them with a Mesa Subway amp too. Hard to kill.
I have 3 that I use. KRK KNS 8402, Sony MDR-7506 and Phil Jones H-850. All sound good and are driven very well. All also sound very good with the new Magellen Pre/DI. Just sayin! Just never use my D800+ to drive headphones.
That is a great question. If an open back is desired I would recommend on of the Grado sets. I tried my son-in-law’s 60e’s just yesterday and they were nice. The newer 80x’s go for around $125. The sound was nice with great detail but not a lot of heavy bass. I was a bit bothered by the on-ear pads though. I prefer over the ears. I think the Beyers are the most comfortable but have some sound leakage that the AT’s don’t have.

Not sorry - I wouldn’t touch any PJB product with anyone’s ten foot pole. Those headphones broke on me fairly quickly and the C4 I got was substandard. I went on the PJB fb forum to voice my concerns with their QC in general and got publicly reamed by the man himself. No thanks.
Seems like he lost a chance to gain back a customer and create some goodwill and reflect good customer support to the onlookers.

Yep. And this was YEARS ago. It still stings.
They're closed back, but kind of on the ear, not completely covering it as a cup might...

The places I wear headphones, like my home and rehearsal spaces are air conditioned. I've worn them while mixing in hot spaces, but I only have them on for very short periods during that use. I don't wear them while cycling or sunbathing at the beach.
Anything sealed will be warmer than anything that won't, but if rejecting some outside noise, as well as keeping the headphone sound in, is important, it's something to live with.

I find with closed back headphones I have to take them off after a bit because the air pressure, as little as it is, bothers my ears. And I don’t listen very loud at all.They're closed back, but kind of on the ear, not completely covering it as a cup might...

My H850s have worked very well for several years now, and I recommend them. They sound marvelous for bass and with my Mesa amps' headphone outs. There are other positive reviews for them elsewhere on TB.

Sorry yours went bad. However, I'm not expecting mine to go bad as well. If they were to, I will contact Phil personally. I know several PJB owners in my area that either have had no problems with any of their gear, or had minor issues and Phil took care of them.
