I've had good luck with my carvin BX1500 when I did just that. No blend, but 2 volumes work the same as a blend knob.

I had one of those. Powerful and remarkably uncoloured—with, of course, the biamp feature nicely implemented.

Some heads have two amplifiers like the Hartke LH 1000. I can run it as a dual mono or bridge both channels. There is also a balance knob. I just wonder if some of you use this possibility to drive different sounding speakers and then blend the sound with the balance knob.

Yes. That's what they're there for. Stereo amps usually have a crossover as well, so that you can push highs and lows to seperate speakers.

Yup. I love mine. But the Ampeg SVT 4 pro is really overkill and a bit heavy for this old geezer to want to haul around to every gig.
