Double Bass Health Related Issues To Playing

I'm kind of surprised this thread isn't bigger with more insights into peoples' issues and remedies.

I have been dealing with what I believe to be mild tendonitis in both left and right arms (from bowing in the right arm). I studied with a classical teacher (Paul Breslin) for about 5 years when I started out, and recently went back to see him last year to double check my technique and he said everything looked fine.

After taking a 3 month hiatus while living in Thailand, I came back and jumped immediately into gigging. This was a very bad idea, as my arms swelled up really bad and I couldn't play between gigs at all. I was taking lots of ibprofen and doing whatever I could to try and remedy it, but I couldn't help but have these thoughts that I may not be able to keep playing (the most dreaded thought!!).

After taking some rest, changing up my diet (no more sugar and alcohol), and heavily focused on relaxing while playing, taking many breaks in practice sessions, I can finally say that I seem to be able to manage it. I still have a wee bit of pain after a gig or a long practice day, but by the next day it's completely gone. I do also ice my arms occasionally and massage muscle salve every evening.

I wanted to share this: I started taking high absorptive Liquid Tumeric. Literally as soon as I started taking this, I could tell the inflammation went down. I'm going to continue taking it twice per day for a month, and hope that my systemic inflammation is controlled after that. Amazon.com
