Heaviest Basses?

This old and feeble bass player with marginal knees will hardly ever, (if ever) thinks about the weight of my basses. Having a full and regular gig calendar, performing well and maintaining my health are my real concerns. My usual priorities.

The heaviest of my 6 basses is an OLP MM2 @ 9lb 12oz

What's it made of?

I built an 8-string bass in the '90s and went a little overboard with the exotic hardwoods; bubinga and wenge neck-through with purpleheart stringers and zircote body sections.

It weighed 25 lbs.

It's a wall decoration in my music room now.

My bubinga/wenge/ovangkol german Warwick ‘vette 5 string has to be 12lbs, if not more.

Crazy thing is my old guitar player’s Les Paul was just as heavy:x It sounded like a monster, though.

Back in the 90s I played an Alembic 5 string Europa. That weighed around 15 pounds. It sounded amazing but if it was a 3 set night you were going to be tired.

I have a 2 year old Europa over 13 lbs lol.. good things don't change!

I had an old PJ that was 11 lbs. It would wreck my shoulder on a 3 set gig. I have no idea how guys play 12+ pound basses on gigs with more than a single 45 minute set.

I used to have a Les Paul recording bass, about a ‘70 or ‘71 maybe, that weighed about 13 lbs.

You guys all are making me feel like a wuss for carping about basses that weigh in at 8.8 lbs.

My heaviest is 8.4 lbs. I just won’t own anything heavier.

My currently 80's MIJ Fender Jazz Special is the lightest bass I have used. I picked up years ago a Jay Turser Jazz copy bass, that thing weighed close to the 10 lbs mark. I sold it after about a month of having it.

None of the basses I have kept are heavy, but I had a 12lb Peavey T40 in the 80s. Other than than, heaviest instrument I had was an 11+lb 70s Strat. I have a feew P and J basses now, none over 9lb, most around 8
Then there's the upright, which isn't really heavy, just very awkward to move around

had a jazz bass (parts bass), weighted 13.8lbs... did not have too long, wasn't the greatest bass ever. Parted it out.

I had a T-40 that tipped the scales at 11.5 pounds. Sold it within a year. All of my basses are at or under 9 pounds now.

My Gibson RD Artist has to be north of 13 pounds. I just got a Hohner B2A that probably doesn't weigh 9 pounds soaking wet. Of course, I've never actually weighed them, so I could be wrong.

My Conklin GTBD-7 is way up there. It balances pretty much perfectly though, really not uncomfortable at all.
