One point always stuck to my ribs. The first time I heard a friend’s McIntosh pre-power-speaker setup, I was blown away! He knew Gordon Gow (or was introduced to him), we went to the mobile clinics they used to have. Those technicians used bare end “zip” cord for speaker hookup. I remember thinking “really?”. Yup. Really!

This thread also reminded me to replace the extension cord in my bag with 15 foot, 18awg. I had a nice thick one from home depot that's probably nice for certain power tools.. also 50', 10awg in my car for special occasions.

if you want a cable that's way too thick a gauge for what anybody needs and has cool colors, you can get 'em a lot cheaper than $30!

apparently fun-colored 14g IEC cables are common for computer servers, i guess so they can tell which cable goes where in the back of a big server rack

On the topic of colored cables and servers, as a systems engineer, I can tell you colored power cables are one of the greatest inventions ever. In our server racks, we run 4 large power strips to 4 separate circuit breakers, so that each server (which take 2 power cables each, for redundancy) can be connected to 2 separate breakers, saving us if one decided to die. I use one color of power cables for each power strip, so at a quick glance, you can see exactly which servers will be affected by switching which breaker.

Sorry, that was super off topic, but back on topic, I can tell you that PDUWhips.com sells very nice cables, colored or otherwise. That's where we get ours. Another thing they have that's fantastic is cables with a right angle connector on the IEC (amp) side.

It's even funnier if you have even a very basic idea of how the AC is regulated and filtered by caps to convert to rail voltage. The very idea that the carrier for the wall AC can effect this other than levels provided is ridiculous. Unless you are using the Lug Power System 5000, of course.

Not necessarily. There are plenty of people who would be happy to help you upgrade that receptacle (make mine palladium, or sumthin'), and sell you a balancing transformer for your local AC feed.

These high end cables are able to tap into the multiverse of "many worlds" outlets. They don't just draw power from the one outlet in this world, they draw it from the many worlds outlets. They only look like their plugged into one outlet for observers in this universe.
