Hello Music

I've tried Hello music (bought an Am Std P Bass for $800). As far as the double bass guitar gig bag goes - that sound like a heavy package to haul at a show.
I see that Hello Music is offering the 60th Anniversary P-Bass for $1,150.00 again. Maybe they didn't sell as well as Fender had hoped. They're very nice basses though, and this is a nice deal...
The few 60th anniversary p basses I've seen in local shops had QC issues that I don't usually see in other USA Fender products. I wonder if that has been a more distributed problem?
I dunno about that. Fender MIA QC was so wildly crossed-up in 2011 that I would hesitate to identify it with a single product or model.
That said, I've thought that this strange-looking bass was a major fail, given what it was putatively to represent. Once more, Fender trying to think outside the box left buyers cold.
I thought the 60th Anniv. bass was a brilliant styling move. Instead of making yet another tedious vintage reissue, they created a new bass that was a mix of styles from the company's past. It's the only brand new Fender bass I've bought in many years. I don't see signs that it's not selling well. Even so, it's meant as a limited edition, so by design it wont' be in the Fender lineup beyond this year.
A review of the archives will reveal this as a minority opinion.
I think a lot of the problem was that everyone immediately identified the goofy pickguard arrangement with the super-cheap Squier '51 guitar. I know I sure did. It wasn't what most buyers wanted to see in a piece this expensive. "Brilliant styling" was not the description that came to most minds, and GC here simply could not move them. If Hello was dumping them, that problem must have been general.
I'm in that "brilliant styling" minority, and bought mine from Hello Music several months ago for $1150, plus -- get this -- 9 (nine) dollars shipping. No QC issues at all. It even arrived with a nice setup, ready to play right out of the box.
I look at HM's special offers from time to time, and I don't get the impression that it is a dumping ground for misfit toys: The deals are often on popular, quality gear. Plus, these specials usually only run for a couple of days, because they only have a very limited stock of a given item and the deal expires when they run out. I have no idea how they do it, but I don't think any special they run (including the 60th Anniversary P) should be interpreted as evidence that the item is either poor quality or a slow seller.

That body and pickguard just looks "off" with the split coil pickup. And the modern headstock isn't right with that body.
That 60th P just violates too many expectations. I'm sure it's a fine bass, but when I first saw it, it just didn't look right.
Thank God everyone has a different eye for what looks stylish in bass design. Wouldn't it be boring if we were all playing "Wish" basses?

When Fender creates a new bass, and not one from existing bits, they can and have hit home runs. Look at the P bass in 57, the Jazz in 60, the Jaguar. I really like the new Reverse Jaguar.
The 60th, to me, uses parts that are all very familiar in the wrong way.
