Help a 42 y/o TBer lose 38lbs.

Once you start your regimen, don't get on the scale all that often as it can be discouraging. Warren Buffet never checks his stocks on Friday much like people on an exercise program should never weigh themselves on Monday.

Start slow, find some forms of exercise that you like, sweat at least once a day, cardio cardio cardio, water water water. I drink about 2-3 gallons per day, but mostly work from home so it's easy.

Also, cheat A LITTLE from time to time but moderately, like one treat a week. Regarding the beer, you need to lighten the inbound if you want results and you already know that.

A dude I called Fabio, 230 and a 28 inch waist, said he basically lives like a machine during the week and does what he wants to on the weekend. Although, his version of gluttony can't be the same as others.

And when you exercise, none of this 'geritol' walking, although at first you should take it easy. You need to build your body up, it's not going to happen with comfort while you work out. Keep a WORKOUT LOG to know that you are improving.

Switch WHEN you eat as much as what you eat. I read an article in Men's Health a while back that said you can really boost your metabolism by eating something (even if it's small) ASAP when you wake up. The sooner the better. Then eat 4 or 5 SMALL meals a day rather than the big 3. Bigger meals in the morning and smaller as the day progresses (which was totally backwards for me). I'm with you an the beer.....just not every day. Give yourself a break from the diet every few days or so. Don't beat yourself up for a pizza and some beers every now and then. Best of luck!

do an hour of cardio everyday
drink straight clear liquor instead of beer (i mix with water because diet pop is like drinking acetone)
stay away from processed foods and carbs and decrease your food intake. eat 6 small meals a day.

most community centers have gyms and pools so go see what they have it only costs a few hundred a year or 5 dollars a day usually.
Also you can download alot of exercise videos from bittorrent.
I've been doing p90x (yeah the one from the infomercial).. it's kicking my ass, I'm sore all over but after 2 weeks I've lost weight and gained alot of energy
...and stamina...:p

first things first is to get your metabolism back up and running for that you need cardio.

Crusader I can relate. I started using the South Beach diet as a guide. I do not follow the portion control as strict and I allow myself a little more room. But changing starches and sugars has helped. Almost 40lbs down in five months. Thinking about what I ate also made eating out and on the road much easier. Good luck and keep at it. That an be the hard part getting discouraged.

Down from 252.6 to 251.8. Not much change over 8 days (.8 pound) but at least the right direction. :D

I'm down to 214-215, like you, slow but in the right direction (unlike the Yankees:crying: geez they suck, but that's for another thread)
Beer consumption is down, eating some protein for breakfast, ie. Better Than Eggs (no cholesterol) with a little ham. No bread.
If I can hit 210 by next Thursday, I'll jump for Joy.

Send me 5 of your basses. That should be more than your targeted weight loss.

What most of the others have said: Eat healthy, exercise, cut back on beer (it can be done), and don't expect to lose it too quick because it probably took a while to gain the extra weight. Watch the snacks, most people eat to keep from getting hungry instead of eating because they are hungry. Will power and self control can do wonders. Best of luck with whatever program you try.
